Many people listen to God. They just don't talk about it because of all of the ridicule that they get.

What are you smoking son? here's a list of modern day prophets:
Joel Osteen, Martin Luther King jr, Mother Teresa, John Lennon, Dr James Hansen, Bob Marley, Oprah Winfrey, any volunteer who reaches out to help their neighbours, Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and Douglas Adams. There are more than these of course, each with their own special way of revealing the truths of God.

Would you know a prophet if you heard one? Doubtful. They are out there. But you have to be willing to hear them, and there's not a lot of that going around just now. A prophet is a voice crying in the wilderness, answering only to God. Even most Christians would be scandalized by a prophet in their midst, just as the priests and Pharisees of Jesus' day were scandalized by Him.

Problem is, back then they were not considered prophets, but heretics. We have had our share of prophets of late. What about Martin Luther King, Gandhi, yes even Chairman Mao, he did lead alot of people towards a promised land. Mandela, Timothy Leary and probably include Gore with his preaching on Climate Change. Open your eyes AND ears. there are some about.

There are just as many prophets today as there were back then. In fact, probably more. Just look around you. Jim Jones, Oral Roberts, Sun Myung Moon, Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda (that guy Florida with the 666 tattoo).
The big difference is that most intelligent people realize that these "prophets" are just a bunch of loons. 2500 years ago, people weren't able to make that discernment as easily.

I don't know, but I suppose God does not need as many prophets because we have the bible to learn from, therefore meaning as many leaders would be considered redundant.
Also, modern prophets would walk among us with humility, doing God's work without the publicity.

The teachings of Jesus and others and the evolution of the planet is allowing many to have the same connection with God that the Prophets had. so there is no need for leaders as before.

From the Christian and Islamic points of view, the last prophet has already come, John the Baptist and Mohammad respectively. (Christians believe Jesus to be the Messiah and God incarnate, not just a prophet.)
The final message has already been delivered, so why should God repeat Himself?

You've got two coming - Elijah and Enoch - and if you don't believe these 2 prophets you will be in great trouble. God calls them His two olive trees. They will stand in the streets of Jerusalem preaching and if anyone tries to stop them fire comes from their mouth and devours them. Revelation 11:3,4
I believe we will see our children prophesying before too long.
Old men dreaming dreams and young men prophesying.
