Well it all depends on what type of skiing you expect to do. For jumping, you want twin tips. I dont know much about twin tips but I think Fischer and Salomon make good ones. But I detect that you don't want something this hardcore.

If you're racing, Atomic's are the way to go. They make some nice slalom and GS skis and even Skiiercross skis, which are pretty versatile. but again, I think this is a bit much for you

For just high performance all mountain skis, Atomic makes decent ones, but I've really loved Blizzard skis. They are different, but definitely a better price:performance ratio.

If you're a beginning skier, you'd want an all round ski. Probably Blizzard because you won't be able to tell the difference between the really high quality carvers and the cheaper ones.

Atomic makes nice race boots, but again, you don't need those. Dalbello makes awesome boots for the average skier. I have actually never ended up buying anything other than Dalbellos. Ever since I started skiing. Now, I have their Aerro 60 which a little stiff for me. I suggest a lower Aerro model. You want something that will allow you to lean forward very much because that's how you turn.

As for poles, pretty much anything is fine, as long as you're not a racer. But I should add that I have been using cheapie poles forever until this year, and the ones I got for $50 give or take, are much more durable and do not seem to bend nearly as much as the other ones which were bent beyond use after a few seasons.

Make sure you get a ski that is between your neck hight and nose height for a beginner. Poles should be about a little more than waist height.

You should go to your local retail store and ask for some help. There are a ton of different skis and boots at reasonable prices. K2 has some nice lower end skis at a great price point, as do Blizzard. As for boots, Dabello and Salomon tend to have a decent price point boot. No real bells and whistles, but they will get the job done.

Always go to a specialty store. The sales associate should be knowledgeable enough to help you find what will suite you best!

Good Luck!

I thin K2 are the best for freestyle and are also fairly cheap.
