When you get braces, first they brush your teeth with a disgusting toothpaste. Then they have these little rings and they will be fitted to your back teeth - one on each corner. They will ask you to bite down to get the ring on. Then they take them off because you will put them on with glue later. Then they put this soap on them. Then they put glue on them. Then the dentist's assistent with pick up a bracket with little tweezers and hand it to the orthodontist. He will then place it on your tooth. It goes on like this until the teeth that need brackets have them. Then you wait 2 minutes while they dry. After that, they put on the rings from earlier. Now this is the worst part because the glue is super sour and bitter at the same time. It's terrible tasting and makes you wanna puke, but it's over soon. They they open your brackets and it's a little scary but they won't hurt you. They put in the wire and close the little bracket openings over it. They may put a coil on the wire to make a little more space in your teeth. Lastly, they put on your colours with this little tweezer thing it just feels like they are going around your tooth with it. Then they take to you and your parents about brushing and taking care of your braces. This seems like a whole long procedure and yes it's 2 hours but it goes by really fast. For the next couple of hours, you feel nothing. Then that night, it hurts. A lot. Only eat milkshakes and pudding and jello and stuff like that. You won't be able to chew. It takes while to get used to all that metal in your mouth. And you may talk funny, like you have a lisp. Take some advil or tylenol for the pain. In a few days, you will get used to it. But be prepared for sharpthings rubbing in your mouth. They give you wax to help with that. It won't be too bad, I promise. Cheers, and good luck!!

relax, yes braces are uncomfortable and do cause pain but nothing really bad. After you first get them on your teeth will ache but motrin or advil work well as does a warm cloth put over your jaws. you will be sore for a day or two then it goes away until your next adjustment(about 6 weeks later) then you take some more motrin and go on with life. Most of the time I try to eat soft foods on the day of my adjustments but the rest of the time I can eat normally. One word of advice though buy a waterpik machine. After braces it is harder to brush really good and the waterpik will force hidden food out so your gums do not get infected.

Don't worry! It doesn't really hurt at all! The "worst" thing about it is it feels weird, but then again, you have people poking your mouth.
Don't freak out beforehand, and most importantly--take good care of your teeth and braces. If you break a piece of your braces, tell your doctor right away, or else you may have to keep them on LONGER!! That almost happened to me.
good luck

LOL! I just got my braces, NO PAIN. Seriousely, if you have a good doctor, it doesn't hurt as much as you think it does. It's the couple of days after the braces that is the real pain...Mine hurt like heck until the week after, then I got totally use to them.

I have braces and it is actually pretty painful. Damn near the whole time you have them, they hurt. My advice is to look in the mirror all the time to see how good your teeth look in order to make up for the pain. Also if you think the pain is going 2 be unbearable then it will be.

No pain - no gain.
You want pretty teeth, you will suck it up. Braces are expensive so don't whine about it.
You should be excited about this phase of your life.
Don't forget to take extra good care of your teeth, you don't want to lose them.

It's not that big of a deal. Sure, it aches a little bit, but pain...I don't know. If you avoid anything chewy for two days after you've had them adjusted, you shouldn't have any problems.

it only hurts for the first couple of days, but after a while you forget you've even got them. wash your mouth with listerine and take regular panadol, dont bother with the wax, it does nothing.
