Just say you'd rather not discuss it, or that it is none of their business. These are both true, and to the point.

Not telling someone something can not be a lie. If someone is trying to force you to say something it is best to say that it is none of their business at the moment, and that you simply do not want to talk about it. It is always your right to not say something.
but it must be exactly that, not saying something at all. When you start telling things and leave important facts out of the way it might still not be a lie, but it is deception, and that has the same character as lying.
so not saying something is the right way to keep things private. telling story's to disguise facts is kind of lying but okay for business-purposes. telling false statements is definitely lying and not right in any circumstance, especially if it concerns friends.

It depends on what the "something" is... If it is something like, say, you have herpes, you should fess up, If it is something that could potentially come up later in a marriage, then it would be good to spill the beans BEFORE getting married, or it could potentially ruin the marriage. If it something like, when your arm got pinched and you didn't say it hurt, then no, what's the point? I wouldn't go spilling the beans on the first date or anything, but you may have to eventually fess up.

Sometimes a little white lie can be better than exposing the truth if it is going to make the would worse.

I don't think it's a lie but I think that you will be better off telling people exactly how you feel about something. They can't correct their behaviour or language if they don't know that it bothers you.
