I run a small prayer list on Yahoo, and every week in Lent, I post a different set of meatless recipes -- soups, salads, entrees, and desserts. I started doing this a couple of years ago when I realized that I couldn't face one more fish stick or package of macaroni and cheese.

If you're interested, I'll send you some different recipes to try. Let me know before Sunday, however, as I will be out of town for a few days.

Its 7 days over 6 weeks how hard is it.
Ash Wednesday= Tuna Casserole
Friday 1= VanDeKamps/generic
Friday 2= Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese
Friday 3= Spaghetti Marinara
Friday 4= Tuna Casserole
Friday 5= Grilled Cheese
Friday 6= Cheese Pizza

2 repeats and they come up almost a month apart, thats of course assuming you only have one major meal at home a day. Tuna Helper is your friend. I am a bachelor, so maybe that makes it easier for me to follow this little menu. there is also the 'heart attack in a sack' fish sandwich deals at all the fast food places. and for the kids, Mac'n Cheese and spaghettio's

Catholics did not have to eat fish on Fridays. They were not allowed to eat meat so fish became the substitute. They could eat whatever they wanted as long as it was not meat.
The no meat rule no longer applies (except for good Friday).

Oh!!! This is so hilarious, I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I was in a Mexican restaurant and they were only serving fish today. I went ahead and had it.. but didn't think anything of it, well I said they don't have their regular stuff today, and we just figured who knows what.
Now I get it. They are Catholic (the huge cross with Jesus) in the room. But I didn't connect it with Lenten season.

I am a former Catholic and left the religion because I could not understand the reasoning behind many of their rites and rituals. However to answer your question.....

You do not have to eat fish on Fridays during lent. It is meant to be a meal with no meat. You could have pasta, vegetable soup, eggs, chowder.... anything without meat.
