bashed for the Bible, creation, the Church itself, Christians themselves, Christian activities and programs. I assume you heard of Christian projects, humaitarian endeavors, Christian outreach, evangelism, Christian aid, etc. Look around town or in a phone book, see how many Christian programs there really are. MANY hospitals have Catholic or Christian names . Why? Because they started, built, and back them. Christian "soup kitchens", Christian outreach/aid such as -feed the children, food for the poor, thrift stores, keep cool centers, warming centers, coats for the needy, Christian schools and universities (Noter Dame, Holy Cross, Concordia, CBC) to name a few. Outreach, evangelism, programs such as mission projects in Africa, Evangelism in South America, Outreach America, people like Billy Graham, plus radio and TV programs. Atheist, Darwinians, evolutionists, offer aid where? to whom? Answer...nothing and no one. No hospitals, aid/outreach centers. No aid to/for anything.

If you're looking for dogma and an outlet for your fantasies to run wild, well ya' got me. I have nothing of that sort to sell you.

Of course, if you took the time to actually read about science and what evolution is all about, you'd see that it doesn't require rejecting God.

While it is true there are many Christian-founded hospitals (mostly Catholic... imagine), there are more secular hospitals, founded and run by people with no agendas other than helping those who need help. They offer no religion, no communion, no crucifixes on the walls. They offer nothing but good health care. To say atheists are incapable of a gesture as altruistic as founding a health-care organization is disingenuous at best. Christians have no corner on compassion, kindness or commitment to helping the less fortunate. Atheists just don't expect fealty to non-existent spirits in return for their care.

BTW: I'm an atheist, and a nurse (Catholic hospital nursing program graduate) with 30 years experience in acute care, most of which was in secular hospitals.

What the hell is a Darwinian? Or even an Evolutionist? There are no groups by either name. There are atheist organizations, but very few. As far as humanitarian aid, there are thousands of secular origanizations offering aid. A few of my favorites are Doctors withour Borders, the Red Cross and Oxfam. Brad Pitt, founder of ONE is an atheist and has done a lot of wonderful work.

most of the hospitals that were constructed by atheists where i live have names like colchester general or grovelands medical centre, not darwin the merciful or the huxley hospital. local charity shops, sue riders, secular, help the aged, secular, amnesty, secular. oxfam, secular, shelter, secular. there are the salvation army and Christian aid shops, but these are far outweighed by secular charities where i live because most people here are atheists, agnostics or indifferent. where you live most people are christians, therefore, most charities are christian. the aid given by such groups as oxfam and medicine sans frontiers, is given freely and without conditions unlike some of the evangelical charities who impose conversion and church attendance before they dispense medicine or feed the hungry. and the political interference by some christian groups who try to dictate health policy about HIV/AIDS in some african countries like uganda is downright scandalous. take a global view, don't base your opinions on just what you see in your neighbourhood.

Get out of the church and into the real world. Be nice. The answers you have received are deserved. You have made an over generalization. People other than Christians do positively contribute to humanity. These kind of statements will not win over those who have not yet discovered the God you seem to claim to know. I personally have seen and know people that just plain have a hard time believing in God who pitch in and help others . Have you not heard it taught as a biblical principal that God calls those whom he wants in his own time? Many have come to know God in their own time. Many times my unbelieving friends have asked me about my beliefs and convictions based on their observations of my sustained actions that match my words of belief (feedback from them). Your Question (statements) offend me, a christian, in the ignorance that you show. Please stop the war on those who have not come to know Him yet. While you accuse "them" for bashing, it sounds like you are doing the same thing, further hampering their growth. People do judge Jesus and others based on what their followers do.

Practice love!!!

So you're point is only people who believe in god build hospitals and help people? that is one of the dumbest things i have ever heard. Other people have pointed out two great points, that christian aid groups are more interested in handing out bibles and the work done by aetheists is not recognised as it is just classed as being done by a person. and you don't believe darwins theory of evolution? it is people like yoursel that makes me scared to live in this world. The most powerful country in the world has creationism taught in some schools. That is scary.

Haha that was a nice well crafted propaganda piece. No one calls an organization atheist something or another. There are many atheists that give and many humanitarian programs atheists are involved in. We do things because we care not so we feel good about ourselves. Believe it or not trying to put us in a bad light will not make your absurd beliefs any more true. Two of the biggest donators you see are atheists. Gates and Buffet give tons to charity organizations.

Atheistic charities don't feel the need to identify their work with their atheism. If an atheist is trying to help, it means they are genuinely trying to help, rather than using the situation to try to evangelise (I notice the term "evangelism" appeared twice, along with "people like Billy Graham" i.e. evangelists. I feel these should be omitted from the list, as their value is questionable, although it does demonstrate the true motive)

Here's what atheists have to offer:

Science.

Why is this good?

This science helps atheists like myself discover ways of curing disease and solving world problems.

I work for a pharmaceutical company that is developing vaccines for various diseases that plague the world.

Sure, we aren't actively going on mission trips like the Christians, but I ask, "Who is providing all the medicine that Christians use in their hospitals?"
