get to the end of their pregnancies and aren't even dilated or effaced??? I am 39 weeks today had a doc appt. yesterday and I'm fingertip dilated and cervix is still firm...And this is my SIXTH pregnancy!!! I know what everyone is going to say have sex walk alot...yada yada lol. I walk more than anyone ever knows cleaning my house and chasing my kids...Oh and btw the baby dropped low THREE weeks ago...other than the first this is the only one that has dropped before labor...you'd think with all the extra pressure my cervix would be good and ripe...just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else...

FYI:All 5 of the previous have been overdue. Second and fourth actually made it to induction (12 days over on both) and the first came herself the morning I was scheduled to be induced (day 10 over). SO I may jsut carry this one over forever too...or does it just feel that way?

I was due yesterday and as of wend. My cervix was closed. So I feel ya! I guess all there is to do is have patience cause I have already tried all those old wives tales and nothing has worked. But you can always ask to be induced!
your doctor can ask for you to be induced but its also your choice. Your hospital might be able to take you in tonight even. Give them a call. : )

Yes, both of mine were that way. With my first baby my water broke when he was 10 days overdue, but I still was neither effaced nor dilated. I had the wacky idea that I'd do it as natural as possible.
In hopes of getting things going, they started giving me pitocin a couple of hours after I got to the hospital because I wasn't having contractions or anything. I labored for 25 hours before the doctor gave me an epidural in hopes it would help me dilate. (And as you probably know, pitocin contractions are fast and furious- NOT a fun 25 hours!)
Then I was given an epidural (WHEW!), and at that point I dilated to 5 cm, but the baby's heart rate had become irregular and I was beginning to run a fever, so they did a C-section at 36 hours. Turns out he was occiputal. (Face up instead of face down in the birth canal.) His head was large and he weighed close to 9 pounds, and he was absolutely stuck- wedged in there. He wasn't going anywhere.
With my second child I showed no signs of effacement or dilation so we did a planned c-section the week of his due date. (I wasn't happy about it initially but we had just moved 6 weeks before he was born and my new doc had talked with my old doc about my case and they both recommended that I go with a C-section. After my first labor we decided they were right.) My second child was already as big as his brother and if I'd waited 10 days for him to come on his own he could have been a 12 pounder.
We decided not to have any more kids, and I have a feeling it would have happened again.
One of my cousins had the same thing for 5 pregnancies. My doc said it can run in families, but the two of us are the only ones I know of.

You aren't the only one!!! I was induced with my first child 2 weeks before his due date because I had horrible siatica. They used a drug called cervadil, and I was in labor for about 26 hours. Nothing happened. They sent me home, and brought me back 1 week after my due date(being induced got the baby off my siatic nerve) and tried another drug called cytotek(the drugs were to thin my cervix). This time I was in labor for about 16 hours before they started pitocin. I then labored on the pitocin four about 9 hours before they decided I was going to need a c-section. After all this labor, I never dilated at all. My second and third children were both planned c-sections as my cervix is tilted and I can't deliver naturally. I have never thinned, dilated, or dropped with any of them...

This will probably not make you feel better, but.......
My fired has 4 kids.....her first was natural all the way. she dilated, effaced, and there was the baby.
Babies #2 and #3 were induced with cervadil. They put it in at night, and the babies came the next day. The cervadil just sort of thinned out the cervix and "jump started" her labors with those two.
BUT...........
baby number #4.........had the cervadil put in....nothing. had to be induced. with pitocin!! I thought the fourth baby should have just fell out.......but her babies kept getting harder and harder to get out!!!
good luck!

Is it possible that your due date is off by a few days or a week? Mine was. I don't think the extra pressure helps you dialate any better. I dropped real early too. Hope you pop soon.
