Phone around to some of your stores first to save alot of running around. Often grocery stores and hardware stores will carry rentals and all that you may need to do it yourself..to rent the machine is not usually to expensive, but the shampoo may be. The machines are easy to use and they do suck up alot of the water so your carpet isn't soaking wet. Can turn fans on the carpet to help dry. Also doing it on a nice sunny warm, dry day will also help to dry fast. Good luck. I've done it many times and it isn't to hard. Plan to make a day of it tho.

I'm thinking you've never done this before. Not to worry, just call a professional. Cleaning carpet and furniture is very laborious plus if you apply too much water, it will take too long to dry and start to smell.
The smell has a tendency to cling on, cleaning and deodorizing is the only way to get rid of the smell.
Save time and money and let the professionals handle it.

Hmmm, I used to rent them at Albertsons. But honestly I wouldn't reccommend renting one. They are usually so dirty on the bottom that it adds dirt. I got a bissel steamcleaner for Xmas and it is my favorite thing. I'm pretty obsessive about the carpet and furniture. You go to Walmart and pay $235.00 and you have a steamer so strong it'll almost suck the color out of the carpet. Then you don't even have to return it. Buy one.
