If we were evil, we would just level cities and countries. We have the capability to do so. U.S. is criticised now for civilian deaths, but if we were truly evil many more would be wiped out (cluster bombs, etc. etc.). This and the fact that we do have high tech capablilities to indeed wipe out large masses of civilian population is proof that we are neither weak nor evil. Why would our soldiers put their lives on the line every day when we could just wipe out terrorists, insurgents, etc. more easily by leveling the city? We could do it indiscriminately from 40,000 ft with no risk to our soldiers.

Not everyone believes this. Personally I wish the UK were more closely linked with the US and less closely with Europe. I wish all UK and US troops would come home safe, God Bless them.

No. The US is not evil. The US is still strong. That people call you evil and weak is because they are either weak or evil or jealous or all of these. Do not worry about what others say. But pick up the signs that the US is weakening.. This weakening began when the US started feeling that they are so strong that they can never be threatened or put into difficulty. That is why 9/11 could sneak In USA is unable to move more military power into Iraq and Afghanistan or bring back the troops back home. The bulging of fiscal deficit and current account deficit, the attempt to restrict the immigration of quality manpower from distant countries in the midst of the surge in low skill illegal immigrant infiltration, unavoidable delays in leaping into alternative fuel technology regime, continuance of uneconomic agricultural subsidies, dithering on reforms to make social security sustainable and developing a National pastime of reelecting President to bashing him and call him stupid -- all these are signs of weakening. The US seems to run of an educated elite class that can reinvigorate the young Nation.,

Exactly, we could have ended all violence in the Middle East in about a week tops. We could have just used the best Air Force and Navy in the World to level every major city in the area. We could have taken out ALL of Iraq within days, but tens of millions could have died...but no Americans.

The US is being nice, they could just level out the countries that pose threats. N Korea wouldnt take long, and Iran might be a little longer; but nothing huge.

We are a civilized country and do care for all people in the World.

We avoid using the military forces that could decimate every enemy...but we don't do that...if it kills too many innocent.

Japan and the Atomic bomb was an exception.

So your logic is that, even if the US invades countries, kills a few hundred thousand civilians, that makes the US "not evil", since the US has restrained itself from murdering millions of civilians, like other sadists, like Stalin or Hitler?

Yep, with that logic, we'll be loved by the world round very soon.

I agree. If Nazi Germany were faced with the dilemma of Baghdad, they would simply destroy the city block by block, round up the people, shoot them or deport them to someplace unpleasant.

The fact that we are not evil is unfortunately what puts us in harm's way, because by and large we are trying to help a people who are themselves filled with evil.

Why is it any less "evil" to invade and occupy rather than nuking? to the citizen of the occupied nation, it seems a less than clear distinction.

By your rationale, it is less evil to behead Daniel Perle than set off an IED by the highway
