Just 125 kilometers from Calcutta is, Sridham Mayapur, which is the birth place of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Mayapur is in the middle of the navadvipa (nine islands). The nine islands are compared to a lotus flower and Maypur is compared to the central whorl of the lotus. Surrounding Mayapur (within the middle island), are the eight islands which contain the replicas of extensions of various holy places in India.

For instance, Varanasi (Prayag or Benaras) is about 10 km, and Jagannatha Puri (Purusottama Ksetra) is about 8 km, respectively from Mayapur. There are replicas or expansions of the seven holy cities, Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridvara, Kasi, Kanci, Avanti (Ujjain), and Dvaraka in these nine islands.

The sciptures say that many holy rivers, viz., Yamuna, Tamraparni, Krtamala, Brahmaputra, Sarayu, Narmada, Sindhu, Kaveri, Gomati, and Godavari etc.. All these rivers flowing in various directions form the nine islands. At present, one can see the Main Ganga and flowing from North to South and Jalangi (considered as Sarasvati) flowing from east to west mixing with main Ganga.

Thus all these important holy places like VARANASI, PURI, GAYA and much more can be visited without having to take the trouble to visit other holy places.
