Having children happens out of 'nature's' plans to ensure procreation, life, etc.
Nature did not design 'earning' the food, livelihood etc !
Even today, it is only the human beings that have to earn for food. For the rest, food happens naturally.
That is why there is a high percentage of unplanned additions to the family, and the consequent mismatching of financial capabilities of upbringing.

Well, actually, life is improving for Americans. The economy is stronger and we live in the healthiest, wealthiest and safest time in human history.

What I would like to see is parent education starting in Kindergarten (age appropriate of course) and going all the way through high school so people can make good choices about when (and IF) to have kids.

The problem is that often the poorest have the most children. This is often because they know that not all of the kids will make it. It is also because they don't invest in birth control because of the cost - not thinking far enough into the future to realize a condom is cheaper than a baby.

I like what comedian Carlos Mencia says. He asked his mom why she had 12 kids and she said, "Well, look at them. They're not all winners!"

It beats the alternative.

Most people have kids because they feel the urge to pass something on, to have someone to love, or to fulfill the dreams that they could not. Those urges are stronger than the desire for material gain.
