you can - if they work in a salon or spa setting it would be good - often they get very little of what you pay...and cruise ships as well - all notorious for low pay despite the charge...

if it is a private practice use your judgement - was it worth more to you and can you afford to give more?
do not feel obligated...especially if it wasn't very good...

I never have. Where I live the charge is between $70-100 an hour. I feel that is enough. I realize that if the person does not own his or her own business, he or she does not get the entire amount. The massage therapists are professionals and I have never tipped.

After reading the answers here though, I guess I should start. However, where I go, the lady owns her own business.

For a relaxation massage, yes... but not for a therapeutic massage. Those sometimes HURT! But a massage therapist is a medical professional and should be treated as such.

Yes, it is appropriate to tip for a massage, just as you would at the hair salon.

It depends if the therapist works for a spa or a salon, then yes, unless a 'service charge' was already added. If the therapist works in a professional office, or independently, then no.

The masseus I was seeing (male) was paid much more than a mere, lowly woman. No I do not tip.

Yes, and I'd say 20% at least.
