If you had the baby in a hospital then there was most surely a birth certificate. Do you have a social security card for him/her yet? Check with your state's records office, but there probably is one.

In some states you have to request the birth certificate. Go to the city or town she was born in(or if the hospital is not in the same city/town you live in check your town office or city hall. It usually only costs 9-15 bucks but they can give you an official copy. If you no longer live in the state where she was born contact that states Department of Vital Records and ask for birth certificates. This is mor e expensive but all states keep these records.

OMG you're kidding right? I am a mother of two, and with each child I was issued a birth certificate. When you are in the hospital, someone comes in your room to ask you questions about your child. This person usually works for the state or county. She'll ask questions like the name of your child, your full name, and your place of birth. If the father is present, then they ask the same of him. You have to sign the papers, she will give you a copy. Then it is your job to go to the County Health Dept, to get the official copy, and you usually have to pay a fee for this. This is the way it is done in Alabama anyway. I am guessing this is not your child, you are asking about. Also, not just anyone can get a copy of the Birth Certificate, you have to be an immediate family member. I am sure most states are the same, when it comes to this.

Hmm, I'm wondering if you're checking up to see if somebody else requested your daughters certificate? The county should have a record of each time the record has been retrieved, copied and the address it's been mailed to. It would be best to go down there in person but you can try to do it over the phone. If you call first they should be able to tell you what you need to get that info.

You should have received a copy of the certificate shortly after the birth. If you never received one go to the county where the birth was recorded and request a certificate.

Call your local county clerk's office. They will give ya the fee for getting a copy as well as what forms of payment they accept and ID requirements. Most counties now only will release to a parent or legal guardian.
