How many classical musicians have to practice in their apartments? Other options for practice?

I'm especially interested in Montreal... Are people generally "used to" a musician's need to practice? I wouldn't have access to a practice room...

do introduce yourself to your neighbors, as suggested before. It saves a lot of misunderstanding.
If I understand your name correctly, you need to search out a room that is well insulated, as horn carries so very well. Can you alternate buzzing your mouthpiece with actual exercises?
Also, is there a music store around that rents out a practice room? Or high school music room after hours? A church might not be the best for horn...

There are some ways around this problem depending on what your instrument is.

Try to get into an apartment complex where the residents seem to be away (at work) during the hours you need to practice.

Try to get an end apartment so you have a wall that is not next to someone elses place.

For your own sanity and that of the neighbors practice at more or less the same time every day.

Introduce yourself to your neighbors and tell them you are a professional musician and would they mind if you practiced between the hours of X and Y.

Amazingly, most people don't know very much about how instruments or voices work. Invite them over for a demonstration. They are more likely to be sympathetic to your need to practice.

Well, being an aspiring vocal performance major, I definitely have to practice at home since, like you, i have no access to a practice room. When i lived at my uni's dorm, I just made sure that the windows and doors were closed.
However, even though I'm a light lyric or lyric coloratura, my voice still resonates quite a lot, so I don't practice when my sisters are home, and I still make sure that the windows and doors are closed.

A friend of mine used a church for practice. He was a pianist, and it wasn't even the church he attended that he used.

If you're not yet in college, universities have practice rooms for their students to practice in.

You don't mention what instrument you play. I would suggest playing definately in the afternoon hours, so as not to bother others.
