"I used to be a Christian."

No you didn't used to be a Christian. You simply deceived yourself for a while and now you finally see that you aren't one.

People write me and say, "Yeah, I used be a Christian. I even taught Sunday School but I woke up." Well, sitting in a garage doesn't make you a car and sitting in church doesn't make you a Christian. Knowing a couple of Bible stories doesn't make you a Christian either. Even Satan can quote you some scripture.

You see, most of these people have been DECEIVING themselves. Satan is a great trickster and he loves what the world calls "religious people". They work and work trying to get into God's good graces meanwhile never repenting of their sins and following Jesus Christ. The ONLY way to get in God's good graces is through Jesus Christ. Period. There is NO other way. If you don't go through Jesus you are nothing but a thief and a robber:

John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber...I am the door.
Jesus Christ, John 10:1, 7

It is not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to HIS MERCY that he saved us (ref. Titus 3:5).

The RELIGIOUS, unregenerate man is just as hellbound as any other sinner. You see he can fake himself out for a little while thinking he's a Christian, but it isn't sustainable in the long run. That is why they come in church, endure for a little while and drop out. They've been spinning their wheels in "service" to God and then they get tired of it. They don't have that Holy Ghost power because they have not been regenerated. They were "counterfeit" Christians. As John saith--

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
Many who say "I used to be a Christian" NEVER really forsook this world. They may have quit certain habits (a form of will worship) but the world still remained deep in their affections--they still loved it, more than the Lord. The Bible reveals that they were enemies of the cross though they called themselves Christians--

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be A FRIEND OF THE WORLD IS THE ENEMY OF GOD.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. IF ANY MAN LOVE THE WORLD, THE LOVE OF THE FATHER IS NOT IN HIM.

John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

For a man to reject this world is totally unnatural. It is supernatural. I used to love and crave this sick place and the crummy things it offered--crummy tv, crummy movies, crummy relationships, crummy philosophies, crummy thoughts, crummy aspirations, and crummy problems. I was deceived and accepted it all--like a dog eating vomit. I gave my honour unto others and my years to the cruel (ref. Proverbs 5:9). I let strangers devour my strength (ref. Hosea 7:9). But, bless God, in 1991, something happened. The Father drew me to the Lovely One, Jesus Christ. I didn't want this world anymore. I wanted Jesus and I wanted to please Him. I was saved by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost (and no, I wasn't babbling like a madman). I was born from above. The scales fell off of my eyes. The Father, the Son and Holy Ghost came in to live in me. Things will NEVER be the same. I have no desire whatsoever to return to the rudiments of this world. I will testify against it until the day I die. Jesus Christ is THE LORD and anyone who denies this fact is a liar and an antichrist:

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

"I used to be a Christian." Mmph. Most people who say this used to be deceiving themselves and now their true colors have finally come out. What they need to do is repent of a truth and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ confessing His name and doctrine and bowing down before Him in service.

More so the latter. Politicians who say they are christian to get christians-who are supposed to believe in peace-to become warlike for Israel, even to the point of sacrificing Christian ethics and heritage. I'm not saying we can't be multicultural, by all means. However, a lot of people hate Christians because of this. A lot of things Christians stand for can be really helpful, but the tainted version we have do to Zio Nazism has made us belligerent and warlike. Love, a veteran.

What you don't seem to understand is that to truly be a Christian is to actively work toward being more like Christ.

Though I have in the past actively worked toward that goal, I am not currently doing so and would be a hypocrite if I claimed to be a Christian.

All relationships have their ups and downs.

It must be great to know everything. I wish I could do that. See... you assume that all I did was sit in church. I believed in God. I followed him. And I loved him. Until I used my brain for my own. And now I don't believe. But you... you are a moron. I don't usually like to so openly insult people. But sometimes, it is necessary. I wish there was a God who would punish people for not believing in him, and that he wasn't the one you believed in. So, in the end, after you have gone through life slinging your venom all over the place, convinced that you are better than everyone, you end up in hell with all the atheists you pissed off. That would be great. As it is, when you die, there is nothing, even according to your Bible. Look it up. Every time it references hell, it uses the word sheol or the word hades, both of which refer to "the grave" and the grave is described as a place where knowledge doesn't exist. Doesn't sound like a physical place to me. Unfortunately, you're not even smart enough to believe what you're own self-proclaimed word of God says. Too bad for you. And good luck guilting me into something I don't believe requires guilt, or threatening me with a place I don't believe exists. You're wasting your time. With religion AND trying to convince me to buy into it.

How do you quote the bible to argue your point when you KNOW that the people you are arguing with don't believe in the bible. That is like me telling you "my dad said this" and "My dad said once that..." to convince you that something is true, when I already know that you think my dad is a mindless alcoholic with no sense. It doesn't work. It is basic logic, why do people not get this?

And do you think someone who says they were a Christian but is now not a Christian, really cares if you think they never were one in the first place? No. I just am not sure what this whole thing was about - because if the goal was to provide a good argument for "bowing down before Him" in service, then it failed miserably. If the goal was just to spout off Bible quotes and hear yourself speak, then great job!

You stated a bunch of useless facts... and didnt even support your statement...

I used to be a christian too, but I started to think, why do I believe in something that I cant prove? Why believe in something that was made by man? Why believe in something so irrational, and nonlogical... I couldnt continue down that path...

So I changed my views...

Why do you waste your time online trying to spark up arguements, or whatever you do, instead of going to church? Why dont you get a job, or get a life? Or is god going to give that to you later?

I think you are a crackpot sitting at home in a closet, trying to be funny...

True. Perhaps rephrasing would get better responses. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. As Christians we are to reflect love and grace, not just His holy anger.

God Bless!

I was indeed a Christian at some point in my life, and I'm hardly alone in that category. And by your same definition too.

You have to be an exremely pretentious and obnoxious individual if you can presume to know my prior religous history, and that you know "the only way to get into God's graces".

Thanks for reminding me why I left in the first place!

I THOUGHT I used to be a Christian, but I seldom prayed or read the Bible - just had to go to church.

Then I started praying, reading the Bible, and changing my lifestyle so Christ could change my heart and mind. Now I KNOW for a fact I am a Christian.

How can you " used to be " a christian ? either you beleive that Jesus is our Saviour, or you don't. It seems that the modern trend today is to be " agnostic " , people of science, and not of religion. In a lot of ways, its sometimes a good idea to question the thoughts and traditional beleifs which were set down hundreds and thousands of years ago, but when it comes down to it, its a " yes or no " question, not a " used to be " situation.

Ever heard of the Pendulum Principle? Swing too far in that "holier than thou" direction and you're cementing how far the other way you will swing. Beware!
