I'm 17 years old when I was your age I had your very same problem. What i did was take a journalism class. I was forced to interview people including all the preps in the school. By the end of the year i could walk up to anybody and start a conversation. _Find out if your school has one?_
I'm sorry to say this but the only way to get over it is just to talk to people you don't know.To start off find some shy kids to talk to or some kids that look bored. Also if you know an answer to a question thats asked in class answer it.

The simple fact is the only way to get over shyness is to force your self to be in social situations and in time you will find them easier to deal with

have your friends help you out by introducing you to new people. just take the plunge and go up to someone and say anything. people really respect when others just walk up and talk to them.
