cruise ships. I had a persistent cruise director keep e-mailing me about taking another cruise, finally I gave in and asked her for her best deal, she asked me if I was in the military and I said not now but was, she said she could get me a military discount, I told her I hadn't been in the service in 35 years and it didn't matter, I had to mail in a copy of my DD-214 showing I served more than 6 months and was honorably discharged. I got the cruise at HALF PRICE, my wife and I went on a 7 day Mexican cruise, stayed in a balcony suite for just $840.00 . now that was a nice vacation!!!!!

I am ex-Air Force and airline tickets are the best discounts. Even if you don't get a discount, you can cancel your flight and get a 100% refund. Also, theme parks sometimes let you and 1 other in for FREE!!! I know SeaWorld and Busch Gardens does. You'll just have to ask around. Movies, golf, and a lot of restaurants will give you at least 10% off. I miss those days!

Retired Navy here. Our best discounts are in the commissary. We typically save 20% (including the 4% surcharge...like sales tax) I also only pay $6.75 for a hair cut (one of the barbers used to work for me back in the mid-70's). Also in the health and beauty aids section of the exchange, the prices are much lower for the most part. I find clothing comparable with those in civilian stores. Tickets to concerts, amusement parks, local activities are considerably lower. Here in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, we often have big names give FREE concerts that are even open to the public. A couple of years ago, I met and talked with one of my favorite...Reba McEntire. I love that lady's smile and that red hair!

We go to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland during the last two weeks of December when anyone with a military ID and one guest get in free.

My husband and I each use our IDs and take another couple, so all four get in free.

To Les K: Meh, I think the Russians have already promised them to others. Thanks for the advise, tho. XD

To the question: The MREs. As long as you have enough people to swap the ugly stuff with (the bread is salty enough to scare a potato chip and the mashed potatoes look like kidneys when you get them out of the package).

Tax-free stuff on-base is good, too. Computers are getting a tad high... XD
