What do you think of the states enforcing a law of some sort making young girls get vaccinated for HPV to prevent cervical cancer?

Yes it's true that the vaccine only protects against 4 strains of HPV. But, 2 of those strains account for over 70% of cervical cancer cases. So, yes it's definitely worth getting.

Personally, I see no difference between this and requiring vaccination against Hepatitis B (also sexually transmitted) which is currently being done.

I also think that it's a great idea. By requiring the vaccine, that means the state has to provide vaccines for people who can't afford them. As the vaccine series costs above $300.00, this will help many low income families who would like their daughters vaccinated but otherwise couldn't afford to.

Usually, parents who don't wish their children vaccinated for religious reasons can get an exemption. Their children need not have the vaccine but many, many other girls and young women will have an opportunity that their parents might otherwise overlook.

I think that it's a good idea to get the vaccination but believe that parents should call the shots. There is a problem in making parents aware of the vaccine though.
