Sheesh, where the h*** have YOU been?
Canada leeching off U.S. economy? Hardly!
It is actually the other way around! Yes, it is! Look into the softwood issues, and what the U.S. did to Canada. Canada has all the oil ... and water! If Canada wanted to, they could make things a whole lot harder on the U.S.
Don't rely on what you hear on the news ... the American Press deals in propoganda, and you rarely if ever get the real story. Watch some international news or read international newspapers.
And .. just in case you wonder, I am from the U.S.

This is an absurd question - Both countries are dependant. Howvever, most Canadians would like to think the USA is dependant on us, which to some point they are. However, seeing as how 80% of our trade (which is bilateral - there is no 'leeching' involved) is with the USA. I would also like to make a comment to all the Canadians - STOP with the raging anti-Americanism, it really is sickening. I can understand being discontented by the USA, but to go on bigoted rants about the US, you're no better than the egghead who forumlated this question.
Oh, Michael S. - Harper didnt sent our troops to Afghanistan, the Chretien Liberals did.

The liberal left are certainly the those that the terrorists might deliver to the headsman in the event that they have been to ever income administration of the international. however the liberal left nevertheless speaks out against the conflict because of the fact it extremely is George Bush who's pursuing it. No different reason different than their maniacal "Bush Hatred Phobia" that has had them in it is grip because of the fact the 2000 election. The liberal left can not stand to work out George Bush succeed at something that his administration does. it extremely is the reason the dimmocraps and the media and Hollyweird and the gay/Lesbian activists and all people else which would be lumped into that political spectrum can not see the fact approximately what might take place to them in a international ruled by Islam and Sharia regulation. i do no longer probable think of they are ignorant, they are in basic terms blinded by their very own tunnel-imaginative and prescient hatred of George Bush.

Canada leeching of the US economy? considering all the resources that Canada sends to the to the US such as oil, energy, wood, etc. i wouldn't say that we Canadians are leeching off the US. imposing trade restrictions would not only hurt the Canadian economy but would also hurt the US economy as well and would do damage to those businesses that rely on imports from Canada. As for not supporting the war on terrorism when the reduced its troop levels in Afghanistan so those troops could be sent to Iraq. Canada and the other members of NATO picked up as much of the slack as we could. just because Canada did not follow the US into Iraq does not mean we do not support the war on terrorism. most Canadians still support it. I encourage you to go to your local library or use the Internet to learn more about us Canadians and our relationship with your country.

War against terrorists? What did Iraq do? There were no terrorists who attacked on 9/11 from Iraq, and I would still like to see the weapons of mass destruction that are in Iraq, (the reason that America attacked Iraq). Hello, we have Canadians in Afghanistan fighting your war. And being killed by *your* (friendly) fire. Gee, thats the thanks we get for helping you? And has been already stated by almost everyone else here, we are not leeching of your economy. we could do just fine without you. And get your facts straight. How do you know we are not viable on our own. Hello, we are the ones that are tolerating you guys and your arrogance. Great impose a trade restriction and say bye-bye to all our goods coming in to your country. Save us from having to deal with your attitudes.

Actually Canada is one of the USA's largest trade partner, we actually export more goods to the USA than we buy. In recent years America places illegal tariffs on softwood lumber, currently owes Canada 3 billion dollars as a result and was sanctioned by the WTO. So with regards to leaching off the economy, America is highly dependent upon Canadian goods. Canada is a self sufficient nation with a booming economy. Did I also mention Canada was the first nation to bring aid to hurricane Katrina victims, as well as during 9/11 Canada handled the vast majority of diverted air traffic. As well as sent Personnel to aid in the recovery efforts. Canada has been a good ally with the USA.
No Canada does not have troops in Iraq firstly because it was not a UN sanctioned war and thus under the Geneva Conventions an illegal war. However this war on Terrorists that you speak of, is bring fought in Afghanistan, Where Canada makes up a large portion of the NATO troops.

I'm starting to think you're absolutely right!
But you should know... we tried our best. We elected the most pathetic Bush-sympathizer we could find as our new Prime Minister. He's not really our style, but we did it to please you. And even Harper fails miserably at being as geopolitically ignorant as your smirk-faced texan. When we compare him to your Bush, and Cheney... (and yes of course, Scooter Libby), we can't help but to like our PM (and his admin)... if only by contrast.
So Harper did his best... sent our men over to Afghanistan to clean up your mess. We're there right now... fixing. Your government has always been good at blowing things up, but when it comes to rebuilding nations, you never did get it right.
You say we're not supportive... not in Iraq? Don't worry... we'll be there. When Washington runs out of places and people to extinguish in Iraq, trust me, we'll be there once again to help mop up your mess and rebuild a nation. That's what we do.
Think you're running low on enemies, Mr. Slick?
Wipe out every oil rich muslim nation in the world, and you're no more revered. Canada is one of the few G8 nations that your republican government hasn't managed to piss-off beyond the point of no return. I think you're right... it's time, Sam! Throw us your worst.
Afterall... if you impose trade sanctions on us for not buying into your "kill-first, rationalize later" mentality, well then, I guess we'll just have to go build stronger trade relations with Japan and Russia, the U.K, the middle-east. And as we do so, I guess we will inevitably develop the cahonies to climb out from under your predatory wing and tell you to shove your bald little bird up... a bush's ars. Would that put an end to your 'atrocious double-standard'?

MTLTO: You're right... I won't deny it. Chretien did send our troops there first. But Harper stepped-up our contributions, both to our mission in Afghanistan (and our military generally) so significanly, that I thought my simplification, for the point of this question, was reasonable. No offence intended!
Oh yeah... and for the record: I'm no anti-american. Not even close! I don't like Pres. Bush and his republican government's approach to foreign policy very much. But in the end, we're all just ordinary people, doing the best we can.

I have never heard such an uneducated, obsurd comment in my life. Obviously you need to pay attention to the world around you. Perhaps you should look at the Northern part of Washington where the towns there are turning into ghost towns because THEY depended on Canada's economy to keep them going, but Bush's government has messed that up too.

Would you care to be more specific? How exactly do you think our neighbours to the north are "leeching" as you so eloquently expressed, our economy??? The last time I checked it was us Americans who were, and still are considered "experts" when it comes to "leeching" and double standards. I don't know where you get your information but would conclude it may be from the supermarket tabloids. Inasmuch - if I may be so blunt as to suggesting that you broaden your horizons a little by reading more established publications and perhaps doing a little travelling beyond our boarders with the aspiration of, well suffice it to say - educating yourself a little.

Have your laugh now, but studies show by 2010 Canada will have the largest reserves of Oil and Fresh Water. Then we will see who is crying because the economy goes flat. Lets not even discuss soft wood lumber...you sissy boys cant admit defeat even though the court has told you over a dozen times to pay up. But then again you are our largest supplier of illegal weapons. No wonder why you are all hated with your "our sh it doesn't stick attitude", that's why you have terrorism and we do not.
