I am renting a lovely home, been here 20 months, it's affordable. However, my nabour is a real pain in the bum. I have a young daughter and she's usually in bed at 7pm. My nabour just moved in and they are 60+yrs old, no children "ever". They have this mad kelpie cross dog that barks all the time, but the lady is worse then the dog. She's one of those people that accumilate friends and has people at her home nearly every night, she is so loud when they leave at night. She does not consider anyone. Anyway, my ex father in-law, "i'm a single mum now" is building 2 new villas. He has offered me one to rent. It would be closer to work, but further to childcare for my daughter. He has offered the back villa, not the front, which means my bedroom would be right near the front villas backyard. I feel i'm moving back into my old life, not moving forward as i would be living next door to my in-laws. Any sugestions?

Go somewhere else apart from those 2 options...
... at least u are renting, if u had bought you'd be screwed.
2 months after you leave, order 4 extra large pizzas for your old neighbors.

I'm sorry about your divorce....I'm a single mom too. I know how hard it can be. You have to ask yourself if you are willing to put up with your neighbor. If its not worth it than I would move. Congratulation on getting along with your ex in-laws. That is rare. It would bring back old memories if you rented the villa from them though. Is it worth it or would it be better to pay a little more for a fresh start? If it were me just because of my situation, I wouldnt want my ex in-laws having their hand in where I live just in case custody ever became an issue between you and your ex. Good luck with whatever you choose.

It sounds like you enjoy the place you are in now except for the neighbors.
I think you should try to talk to the neighbors about the problem you are having. Since they never had children, they are probably not aware there is a problem with the noise.
Also, the lady may have a hearing problem as a lot of people that have a hearing loss speak louder than others and she may not even be aware of that.
Sometines if you become friendly with neighbors they tend to see your point of view easier.
I would not even consider moving close to your in-laws. Sometimes, when you live nearby they tend to get too close to your independent ways
Of course, you could always move another place but who's to say it would be any better.
Good luck with your decision...

If you have tried all reasonable attempts to deal with your neighbour then maybe it is time to move on.
This does not mean moving backwards.
If living in your former in=laws is not an option then why not somewhere else.
Maybe living near in laws would give you support with the daycare, they could help care for your child, or help pick your child up from daycare
There will always be challenges esp as a single mom.
I have been there.
Take help when it is offered or needed.
Do not let your ego tell you know if your heart feels it is a good thing to do.
You cannot move backward if you try.
Time moves on, your situation is different now and your in-laws are family, grand parents to your child.
Let them help if they are willing and it is what you want.

I'm wondering if you couldn't call your local police dept. (Not 911 but the station phone number!), and ask what the laws are for noise ordinance. I am thinking that there are probably cut off time that dogs cannot be barking and disrupting the peace, and maybe similar ordinances for people making too much noise at night. It is probably worth checking into. However, if the law can't help you settle things next door, I guess I would consider moving to a more peaceful area.

If the villa's rent is a good value, take it. The situation you're in is worse. When you find a better deal all around -- including childcare, leave the villa and go there.

Depends on how well you get along with your in laws. If they respect your space and privacy I would go for the villa. Your neighbors are not likely to tone the noise down. I would want to know who is living in the front villa though and if they respect their neighbors space and how the noise level is.

you have to weigh the pros and cons of each situation. have you talked to your neighbor about your daughter needing sleep? see if you can work it out where you are if you like it there. also, remember - those aren't the only 2 places in the world to live. consider moving to a new place altogether.
