First you should learn how to spell. I did not become an engineer without knowing how to spell and enunciate. A civil engineer earns more than just a surveyor. Surveyor course is easier and shorter but bear in mind that you will have to be an apprentice before you get your surveying license. If you pursue civil engineering and get your PE you will certainly earn close to 100,000 a year with the right firm.

I'd go with Civil Engineering. It is a broader field & you'd have more options after graduation - like jobs related to structural construction, graphic & building design, teaching, industrial planning, traffic management, etc., etc. Salary? Most engineers earn well. In demand? Things will always be built and maintained - so there's always something for a civil engineer to do.

Quantity Surveying, on the other hand, is limited to just that. Its a specialized field. I'd say the pay and the demand would be above average. Is this a 5-year academic course too? Is this something you can take at a trade school?

If I were in your shoes, I'd go for Civil Engineering...then work and after a while, take a course on Quantity Surveying...that's an excellent combination.

Good luck!

Of the two, you mentioned, I would say, that Civil Engineering, is the route to follow! Once the course is under way, Quantity Surveying SHOULD be covered by THAT course!

There is a major shortage of quantity surveyors in the UK and given the amount of new builds that are going on in the UK you will not be short of work.
