For the past few weeks I've noticed (especially when sitting) a feeling of tightness or constriction in my chest or lungs, more so on the left side near my heart. I can almost feel it as high as my throat.

It does not keep me from being able to take deep breaths, though. I am 29 years old and have no health problems or asthma. I don't have any cold symptoms. I did have a bad cold a month ago (who hasn't?) but I've been over it for at least 3 weeks now.

Any ideas what this might be?

I have never smoked and this symptom is not happening during vigorous activity. Just the opposite.

It could be anxiety, I guess. Our little 5-month-old girl died last month and I ache for her every day. I am not unhappy...just grieving still. I have also had headaches. I guess I will talk to my family doctor just to be safe.

I'm so sorry about your baby. I cannot imagine the pain. :-(

It sounds like stress and anxiety. Have you tried walking? This helps a lot, even in short intervals. Also, make sure you are drinking enough water. These things, plus time and prayer, will help.

probably because you are use to the walk and able to function at this baseline. Any more exertion may make u short of breath. With some Chronic resp conditions the body becomes use to the dec in o2 anf inc in co2 Carbon dioxide. There may be amny other aspects such as climate etc. How old are u?

You could possibly have fluid in your lungs, pick up something heavy. Stress is the number one killer. Take it easy. When was the last time you had an Ekg. Electrocardiogram of your heart? ?High Blood Pressure, etc.
They need to check your Thyroid, esophagus.

Tightness in your lungs and chest can be a symptom to many, many deiseases or problems, some mild and others serious. If this tightness really bothers you, I suggest you see your doctor for a physical.

It could possibly be walking pneumonia, you can have this for months without even realizing it. Go see a doctor and good luck. Sorry to hear about your child.

This will sound really weird, but I've been told that it's gas. By both my doctor and my dad :/ So maybe you have to go? (As ridiculous as it sounds I'm seriously not making this up.)
