Yeah, this has been the worse year I can remember. Just as I am typing this, qualifing was supposed to start at 7 PM. Here it is 10 after and they are still sitting there. The race last week was an hour off of the time advertised. Sucks.

The Daytona 500 got backed up because they thought they'd get higher ratings. California and Las Vegas are west coast races, and started about the time they usually do. Atlanta starts at 2:00, so that is average as well. When they do move race times back, it is in the hope of raising the ratings. Personally, I am happy when they start around 2:30 since I work Sunday mornings, and that is the earliest I can get out of work. I do not like the 4:30 start times like we had last week...

That just has to do with the way the races are televised, which definetly is annoying. I'm on the East Coast, too, and the races do go on into the evening. I'm not sure what we can do about that until the television stations that work with NASCAR coverage change the way the time is set up. We just have to wait until some East Coast racing comes our way...and it will!!

The prime time T.V. hours. In hopes of getting more viewers they think if the races go later more of the curious will watch the races.
Also the fact the "west coast tour" they start the races at noon or 1 o'clock PACIFIC time.Which is 2 or 3 eastern time thus we have to make a choice.
That's all I have to say about that.

I don't think they'll do a tape-delay. They don't do it for football and basketball. Think about it this way, if you live on the west coast, and you go on the Internet and find out your least favorite drive won, or if your favorite driver spun out early, you won't have much incentive to watch the race. You might go to church Sunday evening, but most people go Sunday morning. It's all about appealing to the majority and getting the most ratings they possibly can. But I like night racing, the paint on the cars looks so awesome under the lights.
Cheers!

It's all about the almighty dollar (no pun intended).
For example, when they started racing the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis, it was run on Saturdays. Then when the deal with NBC started, they moved it to Sundays. Now that a new TV deal is in effect, they've moved it from the first weekend in August, to the last weekend in July to avoid conflicts in the network's schedule.
On the bright side, there's always vcr's and tivo.

and when the races are in the eastern time zone the people in the pacific time zone are asking why is the race on so early.it has nothing to do with money,it is the 4 hour time change from east to west coast.no big deal.race starts at 4:00 where i live, starts at 12:00 on the west coast.
i seriously doubt it has anything to do with sponsorship money and programing money.............just the time difference

It's all about TV ratings. I would rather see the commercials during the prerace rather than see them every 5 minutes like NBC did last year.
