yes - if you bought an amethyst, it didn't magically turn into a diamond. maybe find out why it was so important to her to have a diamond - maybe she wanted "traditional" or maybe she didn't want to have to answer "What stone is that?" a million times. I doubt that her changing the stone means she loves you any less, but you need to let her know that lying about it isn't cool.

I may be the same ring. She may have had the stone in the center replaced (maybe she damaged it and didnt want to tell you). There are too many things that are still unknown for any of US to make a judgement.
The question should be this.... does it matter enough to you to break off the engagement? She didnt end your engagement and she didnt ask YOU to buy her a different or more expensive ring... if she did indeed change it, she may only have changed it so it would be something she enjoyed wearing or to save you from thinking you had to change it (due to breakage or any other reason). Perhaps she doesnt like amethyst much.
If it truly bothers you, you need to address the issue with her. Let her know whether the change does or doesnt bother you. Let her know that what bothers you more though, is the lie... or whatever the issue may be.

WTF??? How is that even a question? Dude, she changed it. At the very least, she replaced the stone. There is no way an amethyst ring can turn into a diamond ring unless it was replaced. You are crazy if you believe her.

If there is a different stone than what you bought her in the ring... OF COURSE YOU'RE CRAZY! Why would you believe her? And you need to ask her why your ring wasn't good enough in the first place, it doesn't matter what it looks like, it is a symbol, it stands for the love between you two, not how much money is in the bank.

In a word... YES.
You are crazy for believing her. You bought the ring. you know there was an amethyst in the middle. I worked in a jewelery store to pay my way through college. Trust me, YOU CAN'T CONFUSE A DIAMOND WITH AN AMETHYST!!! She's lying to you. Seriously, you need to talk about this relationship and quick. It's kind of creepy...And if she's lying to you about something as weird as this, what else is she lying to you about?? really important to think about before you get married.

Go to a jeweler together and get the jeweler to tell you whether it's a diamond or an amethyst. Just walk through the mall and "drop in" a jewelry store.

It might be the same ring, but NOT the same stone. She had the stone replaced, and she lied to you about it. It's that plain and simple. Can you really trust this girl.????

Most girls like to be proposed to with a diamond ring. "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" after all! Maybe though it is a completely different ring.

I'm sorry about your fiance and her poor judgment. I WANT an amethyst ring for my engagement ring and can't figure out why she did that.
Do you have the receipt for the ring? Confront your fiance. Ask her what 'happened'.
