I'm a very kind and happy person. When i pass people walking or see them in there car I smile politely and I rarely ever get the smile returned. . . and then Other woman glare at me, all the time. I try to be as nice as I can be, and believe me I could be a real &*%$ if i wanted to be, but im not like that. Don't get me wrong there are some woman that are nice back to me. But the majority are rude, and so are guys not just woman. Everytime i go into the store, and i walk infront of someone or grab something next to someone i always say, 'excuse me' I always say please and thank you, Where has everyones manner's gone? I guess my real question is Does everyone notice how unbelievably rude and depressing everyone is? Is it just me or do you get glares from complete strangers? they look at me like I made out with there boyfriend or ran over there cat!

Jennah, how could you say that the younger people are the more rude they are.? most of the poeple that actually do return a smile or are kind to me are younger people. . .. . That is such a stereotype and i am only 22 yearls old, i am still young myself. You sound ignorant. and most of the people that are rude to me well the majority of them are elderly people that think they can act and DRIVE the way that they want

You are right. I also try to be nice. If I make eye contact with someone, I usually say hello, how are you today? Most just look at you with the "deer in the headlights" look. None of them ever return with a hello. Only old people return and speak. I even hold the door for ladies and most look at you like you are crazy! Younger people must be mistrusting of everyone. I wonder if that is because the news media has scared the crap out of them and they think everyone else is out to harm them? Still, I will continue to be friendly even if the rest of humanity wants to be depressed and mistrusting.

For all of you with manners I say, "Keep up the good work"!

Hmm. I smile at people but don't get many mad faces back. Mostly just blank stares.

I do notice how many people don't thank me when I hold a door open for them. Used to be you would get a smile and a thank you. Now, I don't know. I do see there is less manners out there. Of course, it depends on what region you live in.

Different regions have more or less cultural emphasis on manners. Regions with a high influx of people have their cultural emphasis diluted. I think that is what has been happeneing where I live over the last 30 years.

You have to just keep smiling and putting on a happy face. There are many many bitter people in this world. You can't let yourself become one of them. Some people just have bad days every day and take it out on the whole world. It does seem that there aren't many friendly people out there, but believe me there are. And if any one ever smiles at me I make sure to smile back. I'm like that with other people too. I like to be kind and show my good manners. But you can't let it bother you if they don't react the same. It's not even worth getting upset over because you're the better and bigger person.

I can relate....I was trying to be helpful in the store today so placed one of those bar thingy after I load my food on the register for the older lady behind me. She returned the favor with a nasty little glare. Truth be told people have no manner in today society because of over exposure to negative behaviors on TV and the radio. No one is being taught manners in school. The only thing I can say is keep doing what your doing because for every nasty glare you get there's always one person out their who will be thankful for you kindness and manners even if the rest of the world isn't. I applaud you for what your doing.

I have been asking myself that question for years honey. I finally came to the relization that people just aren't raised like that anymore. Parents always taught me to hold the door open and have manners. I finally just gave up. I know one day my manners and politeness will payoff. So until then I secretly flip them the bird behind there back. HAHA!!!!

I know exactly what you're saying. It's like people enjoy being miserable.

I always hold doors, make sure I'm not blocking paths, say excuse me, etc. And I get upset when people demonstrate that they were not raised to be be considerate of others.

People tend to be be anti-social, some more so than others. I really don't know why this is the case. The only other thing I can say is I'm sorry.

I really don't think it matters what reaction people give you. You cant really tell from peoples reactions alone, weather you have made their day or not, or on the same token they are depressed. So as long as your good hearted what does it matter what the other persons reaction is?
