Hi there,

In my opinion and experience, spiritual awakening is an energetic cellular change that occurs in the body through some of the following ways: spontaneously, breath-work, yogic practises, extreme trauma, near death experiences... among several others.

When this 'awakening' occurs, the human is present to the fact that we are all connected to each other and to 'God' or 'spirit' or 'the life force' through the 'Holy Spirit' or 'Universal Energy'. The concept of God as being separate from us is replaced by the awareness that we all have this energy within us.

Spiritual Awakening energy is often called 'kundalini' - a Sanskrit term which means 'energy of consciousness'. With awakening comes consciousness and awareness of the 'true' nature of this world.

After someone has had such an experience there follows a period of realignment while they must incorporate their new perspective on life into their life. They will probably find old ways of relating to people no longer work for them, or their current job may no longer 'fit' them. This is a period of transition and can be difficult for those who have no language around what happened to them.

For support at this time go to my site http://www.spiritualawakeningcoach.com or http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/k/kundalini.html for more information.

Enjoy the journey!

The best I can think of is the awakening that comes with the realization that if one has a pure heart then one may have a chance of understanding the truth. Clinging to what we have learned with out examining it though is the surest path to the hell of regret, remorse. What is the truth, what is the will of God? Can you find it when you are immersed in your accumulated learning and afraid to let go of it. You know the answer better than anyone.

A pure heart is free from prejudice or rather, decision based on little or no good evidence. A pure heart is freed from the accumulated learning of the millenia and able to examine the available information without being tied by tradition or belief based on tradition.

When someone goes beyond the breaking point and begins telling themselves that God is only testing them. After which they slowly come out of their depression, believing someone is lovelingly guiding them, and instead make it their life responsibility to believe in something that will continue to make them feel good about themselves.

You'll notice a lot of people who have had "spiritual awakenings," tended to get them right after going through depression, suicidal thoughts, losing a career, having a loved one die, etc...
