Do I have to file income taxes if I only made $3,900?

There is no minimum to be ABLE to file a tax return. If $3,900 EARNED income is your only income and is not from self employment, you are not required to file. If you had any Federal income tax withheld, you are likely due a refund. Claiming a refund requires filing. Filing requirements begin on page 12 of the 1040 instructions.

That depends on the source of the income, if its from wages reported on a W2 then you don't have a requirement to file, but you might want to file to get any federal tax withheld back as a refund

If it was from Self employment income, then you must file a return, along with Sch C and SE to report the income and pay the SS and Medicare Tax and any income tax on your income

If those earnings were on a W-2 then you do not HAVE to file but you SHOULD file if any federal tax was withheld. you will get it all refunded, but have to file to get it. if that is self employment income then you must file as it is over $400.

It also makes a difference if you are a dependent. If you are a dependent and have unearned income (interest, dividends, capital gains) over $850, you must file.

You should be below the threshold. Go to irs.gov and download the instruction booklet for a 1040 form (it should be easy to find). That'll have the exact number inside.
