The car will restart and you can shut it back off. Just cant switch it to off, and the car is in park.

Tilt the steering wheel to the full up position and put your pointer finger in the bottom of the column. You will feel a little button, push it and it should release the key. That is a common problem on Pontiacs.

Do you have the car in park? can you start it and shut it back off?

HMMM you might want to think about calling a garage if you can not do anything... I myself i would try all the things everyone else has said too, try turning the wheel back and forth to see if that it is, try taking it out of gear and back in, and if that dont work take a large hammer and beat the hell out of it.. LOL... Good luck

be careful because alot of pontiacs are sensitive when it comes to the ignition key and if you force it too much you will end uop having to buy a nre ignition switch and a new key and you will need to reprogram it ($200 PROBLEM) (perosnal experience)

Are you trying to say it won`t turn to off psition?ok i will assume it will not,so the key cly is stopping before off.You might have a problem with the brake inner-lock feature.same thing if you try to turn it to off with it still in gear,it prevents the key lock cyl from turning all the way to off

Use a screw driver to try and pry it out. Or try to shift into neutral if it's a standard, or see if the steering is locked (that can do it too).

you may have to replace your shift control in the floor because the b.t.s.i.solenoid is part of the assembly.
