Jesus is real, and all will be judged on the final day, on whether or not they have accepted His message of Salvation...

It's not a matter of flat out refusal. People have real and valid reasons for not believing. This is like asking, "Why do some people refuse to believe the Keebler elves are really making cookies in a hollowed out tree?" It's the fact that The Bible is a book. There is absolutely NO proof that what is written there is the word of God (divinely inspired or whatnot) as opposed to simply being the word of men. We can't prove it wasn't divinely inspired, we can't disprove it - and therefore we have to conclude that we don't know if it was divinely inspired, but we do know it was written by flesh and blood men. So does that mean we should treat it as the word of God? That's up to the individual.

What's really going on is that death both interests and frightens people at the same time. People also want answers for why we exist. As a result, people have came up with ideas for what happens when a human dies since the beginning of time. Some of these ideas become documented and get added upon to include creator(s), explanations for the world's beginning, reasons for existence, etc...
The reasons some "live by every word" is because it offers them something to believe in. Without that belief there is no explanations to feed their cravings for both knowledge (of why people exist, where we go, where we came from, etc...) and security (it'll all be OK says this book - you will live forever after death with riches beyond your wildest dreams! Just follow the instructions within).

Some people enjoy living in a life of fiction where they are not responsible for their actions. If you are merely a tool of a higher being, you can do no wrong.
"God wanted me to do this", "it is God's will", "So the Bible says"... These are statements that free people from thought and ultimately responsibility.
Other people prefer having the choices you yourself make have consequences, and make a choice that the allegorical writings of a book that is hundreds of years old, telling of stories 2000 years ago and has been rewritten by scheming, conniving con artists hundreds of times since then have no impact on your life.

The Hobbit was a huge selling book and the Lord of the Rings movies grossed hundreds of millions of dollars. Does any of that make them believeable in a real sense? The bible is much the same, christian mythology.

Do you believe in the best selling book "Gone with the Wind"? Do you think every word is true and you can live your life by it because it sold a lot of copies?
I do not believe the bible is true. Common sense and logic tell me so.

What has "best seller book" have to do with the question? People either have faith (choose to believe against all odds) or they don't believe any of it. IT is a personal choice, neither your nor my business. Good luck

Eh, some people just find it not believable.
Some claim to live by it but I doubt anyone could because it is quite contradictory and, well, bizarre.
Best selling means nothing.

This is an impossible question to answer as the Truth is that no one REALLY knows. Beliefs are purely a personal thing, and an individual will believe whatever it is that feels "Right" to that person.
The only answer I can truly give you is this... We are all judging ourselves each and every day that we are here. ;-)

Same reason I read "The Hobbit" as fiction, and some people go to University to learn Klingon.
