She needs to talk to him and sort this out before acting rashly.

No, I don't think it's shallow--it's a matter of personal preference. Just as many women prefer tall, muscular men (and more importantly: men with money)-many men prefer women who are physically fit and proportionately sized. It's usually an indication of energy and commitment to a healthy lifestyle. At a minimum, it's a commitment to looking good. There's nothing wrong with that either, in my opinion.
He could just as soon ask HER if he quit his job, would she still like him? Would it be shallow of her to say NO because it would be laziness? We're really talking about perception of laziness, moreso than weight (or money on her part).
I think the whole weight thing is such a double standard!

I think it is very shallow. I dont think that weight gain is necessarily laziness. I have gained and lost weight in my life from depression and anxiety and stress. I think if a guy is that judgemental over a womans body, then there really isnt much to him and I would want to end it. Love goes way beyond physical, and this guy just wants a trophy to make him look good.

There is no denying that we are attracted to physical attributes and personality in most cases. While a relationship based on attraction to just physical attributes is not going to last too long, a relationship that is very emotional must also have physical attraction. At the same time, we have a right to choose whom we like, though I do not approve of a divorce after someone becomes fat, though a breakup is acceptable.

lol no.. that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard of. If it was 20 pounds of pure fat, I wouldn't want to stay with a girl either. I don't like lazy woman who don't take care of themselves. If it was because of something she couldn't help then of course I woudln't break up with her. But she shouldn't break up with him just because he said no. that's retarded.

this is a damned if you do and damned if you don't question. i mean come on no one wants to get fat or see their significant other get fat, but no one wants to tell you your getting fat and you definitely don't want to hear that you're getting fat. but breaking up over it, if you really loved her she should be able to take some criticism and do something about it with her, like make a workout schedule together.
