My bf currently in A school and has picked the job as a ship serviceman. He just recently chose norfolk, mayport,fl, and hawaii as his choices for bases to receive orders from if they need him. Is how you do in A school linked to where you go,or do you just get your first choice of base if it's avaliable and your needed there? Do you think he will get Norfolk?

It's called a Dream Sheet for a reason. he had to put down several locations, both CONUS and OCONUS, but utlimately, it will boil down to what the Navy has available when he graduates, plus whether or not they allow them to choose in order of class ranking.

My Husband for instance, was highest ranked in his FC C school class, but chose 4th becuase there were three females in class, and they could only go to certain platforms. he actually was NOT able to choose his first choice becuase of this. But he did get his second.

He could end up anyplace, even if it's not on his "preferred" list.

When it comes to schools, if there are different locations you can get A-school training, sometimes you do have a choice. However, for duty stations, the computer in Washington DC tracks what rates (A school specialty) are needed, and if his specialty comes up on some little ice breaker stationed in Alaska, that's where he will go.

I'm suprised that he even got to fill out a list of preferences. In that case, there is a small chance he will get one of his choices. Mayport is pretty small, so I would think that it would be either Norfolk or Pearl. My first two years after Nuclear Power School were in Hawaii. Much nicer than Norfolk.

Good luck...I hope he gets what he wants!

Congratulations on your marriage and welcome to the protection rigidity different halves club. LOL if you reside on base, you do not could pay employ. it really is because of you'd be giving up your BAH (person-friendly Allowance for Housing) Now in case you've been to stay off base the BAH for the Norfolk, VA section you'd be getting $1068 at the same time at the same time with his prevalent base pay.

He's got a good chance of getting Norfolk. Almost all ships have at least one SH so there are plenty of billets in Norfolk.
