German Shepard! You'll never be able to use the restroom by yourself again with out him there to watch out for you. Loyal, protective, smart, eats like a horse, and needs a lot of attention and excersize.

I have a Steffordshire Bull Terrier. I would never have any other type of dog again. He is sensitive, cute, smart and obeys no matter what, because you are the first the second the third ... YOU ARE THE ONE!! Some rules, but this goes for any other type! Always be the first to go out the door when you go for a walk, that way they know who is in charge. If he slips out first. Call him back and close the door. Try to leave again in about 30 minutes. He will learn that he can only go out when you tell him to. Scrape leftover food from your plate to his bowl, after he watched you guys eat. When you finished give him the leftover. This way, he will know that he comes after everyone in the family. Love you steff bull terrier and you will experience a feeling that you have never felt before. Honest, no matter what love. When you punish, you don't need to yell, just lift your eyebrow and talk seriously shaking your finger. Do as if you are very very mad, don't look or talk to him for two or three hours. He will be at you feet all through that time, and when you forgive, he will be the happiest ever. He will never do that bad thing again. So I vote for Steff Bull Terrier!!

Like the others have said, it depends on your lifestyle, house, ext. There are several books, and websites on breeds. Do your research, decided if you want a purebreed from a reputable breeder, or if you want to adopt. You can adopt pure breeds. If this is your first dog, I would not recommend adopting though. While I am a strong supporter of adopting shelter dogs, it is not a good idea for a first time owner because you would not know the dog's background, physical, mental and emotional and you would not have the needed experience with dogs to help this one. So, there are several breeds that I have had personal experience with that are great dogs. Labs, Golden Ret., Australian Cattle Dogs, and Border Collies are some of the beginner breeds that I would recommend. If you have more experience with dogs, Pit Bulls make WONDERFUL dogs, just be sure to get one from a reputable breeder. We got our Pit from Massie's Kennel. Their website is below. I have also been around some great German Short Haired Pointers, Dobes, Rotties, Min Pins and Poodles. When you are researching your breeds, make sure you look and see if that particular breed is prone to any diseases or illnesses. And when you find your breeder, ask them about OFA, hip & elbow displacia, genetic problems, ext. Also ask if the puppy comes with a health guarentee, ext. I am also putting down a few other websites that I have come across while doing my research for different breeds. But research them, and others, for yourself. Good luck!

That is different for each person. You have to consider the size you want. The amount of shedding. The degree of exercise it needs. And the personality is very important. I used to always have poodles of both sexes, have had terriers but they are too athletic for me, and now I have pugs and love them but they shed a lot. I want to have a french Bulldog someday. I also stick with females now because they fight less. Simon and Schuster have a great book that tells you everything about each breed. The most important thing is being able to provide a fenced yard for them to use and also keeping them tagged and at home. And if you can't afford Vet bills, don't get a dog. Some of the questions on here will break your heart when their dogs need a Vet but they are asking people what to do!! Good Luck!!

Well first you have to decide if you want a big dog or small dog. And that depends on where you live and how much time you are going to have to spend taking care of it. I reccomend that you purchase a book about all breeds of dogs, so you can see all of the options you have to choose from. You can get a book from a library too if you dont want to buy it.

Establish your lifestyle and habits, then choose a dog according to what you like to do, how often it will be alone, when you can walk it, where you live, if you are athletic or couch potato...are you ready to take on many years of companionship or would you like to have a dog to stick in the backyard? Get a cat if you think the later is for you.

Airedales are EXCELLANT dogs. Smart as they come. Easily trained. Quite the characters! And a handful as a puppy, very rambuntious, but well worth it.
