K, I already have 1 tat...a 2" red rose on my right shoulder blade. I got it because my name is Rose. My philosophy is to only get ones w/ meaning that I won't regret when I'm 75 years old.
I was wondering if anyone could give their opinions on more that I want?? (All have special meanings of course.)
*A heart w/ a little bit of tribal coming off it & either 1 giant music note or a bunch of small notes in the center of the heart (music is my life!)
*A set of handprints w/ the names & birthdates of my 1 year old niece & other soon-to-be niece/nephew (after it's born of course) & then will add if my sisters have any more children
*When I have children of my own I'm going to get a set of tiny footprints with their names & birthdates listed around or underneath.
Ideas also needed for 1 to somewhat universally symbolize family... it is going to represent various family members that are dear to me & have passed on. No words please....

FYI: I also have a somewhat low pain tolerance & have to be choosy about the placing of my tats. (Gotta hide for work to be respectful!)
For those of you who are going to just rip on tattoos & tell me how bad they are....please don't even bother answering cause you will just waste your time & mine!! I'll express the way I want to thanks!! I'm not gonna rip on you for something I may not like so don't pull that bull w/ me!!!

Doing just ONE thing to symbolize for the family cause I can't do anything for individuals....there have been quite a few who've passed on & I still have a numerously LARGE family still alive. Mom is 1 of 10 kids, I'm 1 of 27 grandkids & I believe there are 14 great-grandkids if that tells ya how large....LOL!

I don't think you should do the heart with the tribal..... but maybe I just have a prejudice against tribal tattoos. You could do a cute music note on the back of your neck or a little one behind your ear. Or.. if you have a favorite song you could do a bit of the sheet music for that going around your ankle or something?
Handprints are cute, slightly typical. I do like the footprint idea though.
The tattoo to symbolize family sounds like a very good tattoo. My friend got the chinese character for her and each one of her sister's zodiac sign. I know someone who has like a mural with different things, like a lion, a mountain, and other random stuff... but each thing reminds her of someone in her family, kind of like a symbol. I'm celtic, and a pinch scot so I'll probably have a celtic knot with the coat of arms from my scottish family. You could do something like that! Good luck!

I really love the idea of the footprints/hand prints. The only thing I would worry about that is if the detail runs together as the tattoo ages. I'm sure a professional could steer you in the right way with that.
One thing I've always thought was neat were "white" tattoos, using (of course) white ink. And the symbolism of doing the white tattoos with those that have passed in your family, would be awesome. Since you don't want words, maybe you could have a flame or candle represent them.

Of course I like the one with the handprints and footprints because I have a footprints tattoo!
I have three son's. My three footprints are blue (different shades of blue) and that tattoo is on my right ankle.

I love the idea of music notes! music is also my life and i plan to get a tatoo with one of my favorite bands on the inside of my bottom lip. I'm not sure is the niece/nephew tatoo idea is so great though. It just kind of seems to be overdoing it. If my aint had my name on her body, i would be more creeped out than flattered.

btw people do change and what means something to you now will also change so the concept of getting something that will always mean something is null.
However that being said tattoos can be a "journel" of color that shows where you have been and what you have gone through.

That phrase is like something you would see on a shirt worn by a girl in middle school and the placement is trashy.

Maybe you could do somewhat of a family crest , then think of the 1 thing that would remind you of ea. person and put that into the crest.
