Well if you want to get in trouble,let me tell you how to do it, you get you a Guitar and then your in to it. you play all day and you play all night, your folks say you'll never learn to play it right. fussing at ya, gripping, they run you out into the garage. Try playing simle things to start with no more than 3 or 4 cords. Practice Untill you fingers are so sore you can't mash the strings down. That's how you get good. When you fingers get this sore put bandaids on the tips and keep going. It takes a lot of work, the Guitar is one of the hardest insturments to master. But the secret is in the picking. You can know all the cords in the world, by the way there is 3,200, and if you can't make them sing you are waisting your time,. Pick Pick and pick some more.

Just keep practicing. Actually, playing the guitar is so much harder than people think it is. Instead of trying to play tons of different riffs, just pick one and learn it really well. Once you have memorized it by heart, try closing your eyes while playing it. Then, move on to the next riff, and learn it extremely well, and so on. Soon, you will have learned 5 or 6 riffs. Then, you can put all of them together and make a song.
Good luck and dont give up!

First of all, have more confidence and patience with your playing. Everybody sucks at first. Focus on learning one chord at a time and play the same chord over and over again until you train your brain to remember where your fingers should be. There is a company called "Amsco Publications." They make a product called the "Guitar Chord Deck." This is a set of cardboard guitar necks that are clearly marked to show you where to place your fingers on the fret board. This is an amazing tool to begin playing guitar. I bought my set from Target. Remember to have patience and to practice as much as you can. Good Luck!

you don't suck. you are just a beginner, don't worry, thing will be fine;
when i started to take guitar lessons i played very very slow and my fingers hurt terribly;
now, you should, of course, practice, but also learning the theory helps a lot.also, ask you teacher for advice. it is very important for him to know the difficulties you are facing to know what exercises or songs to teach you. hope it helps:)

skill comes from doing, that's it period, you've got to do it a lot to get better. there is no quick way around it. you have the passion just play and you'll slowly get better.....i play too, i felt i sucked too but after a few months i'm able to breeze through tabs that used to be very hard for me to play.
