Rocky ~

It's a combination of things. The enswell would only be used if there is swelling or the threat of swelling. Enswell is a 3 inch by 2 inch piece of aluminum kept in a bucket of ice and used to force the swelling away from the eye. Then there's good old fashion Vaseline. This product is used to keep the punch from not landing solid.

The cut men I know weapon of choice when a fighter gets cut is Adrenaline. There's also Thrombin and Avitene. Most cut men like to use Adrenaline because they don't have to mix it with anything. All of the above are choice coagulants used by top cut-men.

My uncle is a cut-man for over 30 years.

Thanks for the question Rocky, and good luck with your report.

Cuts (lacerations)
Cuts are the primary focus of the cutman because unless the bleeding is stopped promptly, the ring side physician may stop the fight and declare that the injured fighter has lost the match. The most common area of the face to be cut is around the eye. Cuts are treated by applying a cold towel to clean and simultaneously cool the area of the cut, causing a decrease in blood flow. A cotton swab soaked in epinephrine is applied with pressure to decrease blood flow even more, and Avitene is put into the cut to coagulate the blood.[1] A cutman might also cover the area with petroleum jelly to prevent further damage.

Most nosebleeds occur near the opening of the nose. To stop the bleeding, cutmen generally apply a cotton swab soaked in adrenaline hydrochloride to the damaged area, while simultaneously pressing the nostril against the cotton swab with the other hand. Once the bleeding has stopped, the area is chilled with an ice pack or an enswell. The fighter is usually instructed to breathe through the mouth during the treatment.
A broken nose is a more difficult case, and can be detected by a heavy flow of dark colored blood from the nose. The bleeding is generally treated the same way; however, the fighter is usually instructed to avoid swallowing blood as it may induce nausea or vomiting, and the cutman is more likely to consult the ringside physician to ensure the fighter's safety.

I am 39 weeks pregnant and haven't been able to shave for 18 weeks. I look like a cave woman! I asked my husband to at least trim it for me but he didn't want to. He told me he doesn't feel comfortable going around somewhere so sensitive with sharp objects....I was thinking of trying to do it in a mirror. Not to get a razor and shave like i usually do, but at least a trim, but I haven't attempted it yet. I probably will deliver with a full bush, lol. I really don't care either. I do feel more uncomfortable and a little icky knowing there's so much going on down there but I don't care about the doctor or anybody else at the hospital seeing it like this.

How deep is the cut? Where is it?
Generally, any pressure applied to a cut will stop the flow of blood with in a few minutes. It is best to use a clean cloth, guaze, etc. -something that will soak up the blood while wait for the clot to form.

Vasaline. You just squeeze the cut really hard to push all the blood out that is close to the surface, then fill the gash with vasaline and then close the gash with your fingers. The vasaline will kinda make it stick together for a little bit, but squeezing it really hard is what helps the most.

Vaseline. Super glue works best though, that's what it was originally invented for, to bond skin together to stop bleeding.
