David's bridal is a great place to get a dress for less than $250. As long as your not too picky. Or as other people have suggested, get a full length white or ivory bridesmaid gown. There are plenty in the $99 to $200 range.
Also don't forget to check out the bridal outlet stores. If you're near a major city. There's probably one near you. Just look it up in the phone book or online.
Don't forget to include alterations. Especially if you have to get the hem shortened.

I actually bought a more decorated bridemaids dress for my wedding gown...simple and very pretty. They have lots of styles to choose from and the bridesmaids dresses are a whole lot cheaper than actual gowns...check out theknot.com
they have the option to search gowns by price...otherwise you could try davids bridal or even the sale rack at your local bridal shop

I got mine for $200 at a local bridal shop and it was perfect. I suggest going to local bridal shops and looking around, most have clearance racks - make sure to look for sizes slightly bigger than you as well as your size because you an get it altered if needed. Ask the reps at the store if their is a sale coming soon. I bet you'll find the perfect dress! PS: Davids Bridal is having their $99 sale now.

I would try the department stores, you can find something beautiful for less. Marshalls also has great deals on wedding stuff. If you are in AZ , Azteca's Bridal Plaza has a lot of dresses in that price range (and they separate dresses by price range so you won't fall in love with something you can't afford.

I just went to David's Bridal to get a prom dress with my daughter and they seemed to have a lot of $99 dresses. Not sure what they're like but it might be worth it to have a look.

EBAY! There are lots of bridal shops that sell their discontinued, display, not picked up and so on dresses for really low reserves on EBAY. I found a Maggie Sottero dress that was a display in perfect condition for $222.00 and paid 30.00 to have it next day shipped.

My friend went to a local second hand shop that specialized in clothing. There were only 2 wedding dresses at the shop - but she picked one of them and it was only $100.
