Why can't you bring it inside? Even if you have other animals, couldn't you put it in a room with a shut door. It sounds like it needs medical attention. If you do not want to be responsible, bring it to the spca or call animal control.

As long as there is no threat of bleeding to death, I doubt there is too much of a problem. I dont know where you are located - if you have cool/cold weather, so much the better.... virtually no risk of flies getting at it. If cat can reach the wound to lick it, thats good too. This probably came from a fight. BUT it also could have come from a wild animal - there "could" be risk of rabies. (again, depends somewhat on location as to how high the risk).
Cats have been getting wounds for thousands of years - animals heal very well and fast. And since you can not get hold of him anyway, you can only hope for the best. If you want to drive yourself nuts you can buy or borrow a "Have-A-Heart" trap that traps without hurting - and without you touching him - trap him, get him to a vet, and you will have to pay the vet fees. Really - it is probably not nearly as bad to him as it looks to you.

Most strays get into conflicts on a regular basis. If you are concerned I would get in contact with your local humane society. they may be able to provide you with a live cage trap so that the cat can be caught and brought to a vet for a check up.

Where I live, the local police will catch stray animals and take them to the animal shelter, where they get the veterinary care they need. Try the animal shelter or if you have a humane society, or aspca locally, they can help.

Check with your local humane society. They will have 'safe' traps. Just make sure that when you set the trap that you are home or will be home to check on it. These safe traps catch the animal without harming them. Once you catch him, you can take him to the vet or to the animal shelter for treatment.

Its probablly from scratching my cat does the same thing. I recommend treating it with hydrogen peroxide to kill the germs so it doesnt get infected and putting some neosporen on it to make the pain go away and to help it heal faster..........dont worry its not serious

Call the nearest shelter ASAP. He needs help. Don't try to capture him yourself. Keep feeding. You might gain his confidence that way. Eventually, he might warm up to you, but by then the wound could be fatal!
