i have to explain how man adapted to his environment including transportation, housing, population density, and etc. Any suggestions?

Technically in the present day and age man adapted the environment to suit us.

Man didn't adapt to his environment, he adapted his environment to suit his every needs, look around you everything you see is man made.

take only one aspect : houses

next take some different environments : northpole , desert, canada (woods) , near river

and see how the houses are build.
northpole - iglo, ice houses
desert - tents
canada - wooden houses (?)
near rivers : clay houses
city - beton houses

so man adapted not only by building a house, but also the way he builds depends on her environment.

i think you can work this idea out.
