There's no club. Just as long as you're lacking belief in the existence of a god or gods, you're an atheist... and "one of us".

Anybody can be a non religious secular person such as an Atheist, Agnostic, FreeThinker, Humanist. Just like anybody can be a part of any religious groups as well. It has nothing to do with race or skin color or none of that it has to do with a personal choice. And I must add it's not a club.

First you have to understand that what appears to be eloquent speech does'nt always mean that it is correct speech! When dealing on te basis of atheism you are totally disavowing the existence of a being that is greater than your self. What factual basis does science offer to you to suscribe to this type of thought? So would it not be safer to continue on a path of findng what you understand to be truth before following the masses? You are an individual with the ability of thought, so don;t let somebody elses ideas influence your ability to decide for your self.

I understand that this question was not directed toward me because i am a carribean -american a.k.a black and i am a christian. A i understand it you do not know much about science therefore u you would not know that science is all a therory unless it can be proven. Concerning how the human race came to be and how the earth was formed there is little unsupported to no truth in anything that scientist come up with unless it is proved. The best support scientist have on anything they come up with is in the christian BIBLE!!! and my friend i believe you should pick one up and just read.

One of the most prominent atheists in the country is a black man named Reginald Finley who for the last 5 years has podcast under the name "The Infidel Guy." You can find his website at http://www.theinfidelguy.com . There are also other prominent black atheists, including the director of the Hayden Planetarium, Neil deGrasse Tyson.

And just where do you get the idea that all of us are white?

At school I used to think I was white, but I was also the victim of racist abuse many times. So I don't know.

Anyhow, if avatars are anything to go by, you are not the only black person here.

Welcome to the discussions.

P.S. Don't be too shocked if some people tell you atheists don't exist. No, really. Some people actually think that.

I know several black atheists. If you reject a belief in all deities, you're an atheist. No club to join.

However, there are quite a few atheist organizations out there, should you wish to align yourself with one of them. But it's not a requirement.

Atheism doesn't have limits on race, gender, sexual preference, etc. That's not to say that some Atheists may exhibit some prejudice biases, but these people views aren't related to their religion, or lack thereof.

Atheism isn't a club, its a lack of belief in God. If you don't believe in any God or Gods, than you are an Atheist. You don't need any bodies permission.

As you can see from "Matt's" answer, we are not uniformly loved. On the other hand, that same answer informs you of the intellectual level of much of the opposition. ("Science did it??") Gadzooks! It tempts me to ask for a refund on my education taxes.
In any case, pull up a keyboard and enjoy!
