Your question needs some legitimacy:

Rocky Marciano was a very good fighter.

However the question remains that "could he compete with the guys of today who have greater size and arguably greater power.

Rocky Marcianos style of fighting, where he would hit you anywhere, (he was not a sharpshooter like joe louis) was a compliment to his size and mentality/toughness.

I would hardly call him the best boxer in america, he was certainly one of america's greatest heavyweights- Marciano was not much of a "boxer" by traditional definition, he was a brawler.

Marciano has also been on most lists of boxing magazines and orgainzations as bieng one of the top punchers or heavyweights of all time.

EDIT: I doubt you know of or even heard of Rocky Graziano. A hard hitter (same applies except for his weight can be added). However I would not submit him as the greatest boxer in america as ray robinson was a much much much better boxer. Graziano was a good fighter.

You're kidding, right? Ok, Rocky is the best FICTIONAL boxer in America... even that's questionable.

Rocky Balboa? Nooo. The bloke is an old man, and couldn't defend for toffee. Prime to prime, Ali would have whooped him in about 5 rounds.
