Blu-Ray is an optical disc format.

It requires a blue ray disc player and blue ray disc media.

A single layer blue ray disc hold 25 gig which is about 5x what a single layer DVD holds.

The Blu-Ray utilizes a blue-violet laser. Because it uses a shorter, 405nm wave length then than a red laser (650nm is what DVD use), it can store substantially more data.
