If someone calls you from a pay phone, how do you figure out where that is? I have the number...I'm sure the person who called is not there anymore but I wont go into details but [[this is crucial!]] I need to know where they were. Please help me!!

well, here is a website with all the payphones, not only from the US, but also from all over the world....cool...!!

just click on your state, also the fourth number is always a 9 on payphones!!!

Where do you live?

If it is in the UK and you know the number that called you, go to the BT web site (see source) which has a list of the dialling codes. Of course, that will only help if the number starts '01' or '02', not if is a non-geographic number. Even then, it might not be much help if the number is in a large city like Manchester or Glasgow.

Until recently, if you knew the area very well you could narrow it down further eg in Liverpool 0151-727 .... are all Aigburth. Now, the problem is that numbers like 0151-6xx xxxx and 0151-3xx xxxxx were originally on the Wirral but now there are some 0151-3xx xxxx numbers in the City centre - presumably allocated by companies other than BT!

Go to a local phone booth and get the companies number off there. Call the company and see if they can help
