Make a solution with fine pepper and water in a spray bottle. Spray around area your dog does his business and when he goes to sniff it will make him sneeze instead of marking it with urine. Peppermint essence works too but cost a bit more money. Pepper is cheap and efficient.

In my country (South Africa), the best remedy is to place a few drops of lion pee in between the shrubs, which, considering the odds, does not answer your question. ( Pet shops, please take note). Another remedy is to place a few transparent plastic bottles filled with water on the lawn or between the shrubs. Dogs do not go near it.

Sometimes repellent sprays work and sometimes they don't. One thing I have learned to keep dogs away from something you don't want them into is ammonia. Pour it close or on what you want them to stay away from. You can buy a spray bottle and add water if you don't want it real strong, then just spray the area you want to keep your dog away from. Make sure you check to see if it will damage your plant first, I don't think it will hurt them though. Good Luck
