Definatly - and they can tell the time too!

My collie knows when we are going out to training. When we moved up a class at our club, the start time changed from 7 to 8pm. At 6.30 when we normally went out, she was up and stood at the door ready to go. She did this at the same time for 2/3 weeks and then learnt that we didn't go out until 7.30 now. Now about 5 minutes before I start to get ready to go, she is up and fetching her lead and her 'work' toy.

If things always happen at the same time everyday of a dogs life then they can learn a routine. They have no concept of weeks days or anything like that. Remember a dog learns what you teach it!

My dog knows dinner time. If we sit around snacking she will get us and let us know it's time for us to feed her. On Saturdays when we leave early in the morning she gets upset, like she knows we are supposed to stay home with her.

They understand.

My dog always wakes up at 6.45am on a morning except weekends, Iam not sure if she wakes up later because we stay up later. She's a clever WHW. They certainly have an internal clock. Same with my cat.

They don't know the day or date but any animal (pet or wild animal) learn cycles quickly as it is part of their instinct for "survival". Wild animals knows seasons, time for migration etc. Your dog learnt eating cycle and other cycles that she like/don't like.

I had a dog who always knew when I had been paid.
She´d come around with her best dress and make-up on wanting to go to the pub....

... WHAT!

She WAS a dog!
A right b*tch in fact!

they probably don't care about the calendar, but they recognize some pretty subtle changes to the routine, and know that some days "x" happens, some days it doesn't, and which is which
