Consistantly teaching and expecting good behavior and decision making.
I think the vast majority of adults these days are proof of what happens when discipline is lax or inconsistant.
You end up with selfish self centered people. Drive the New Jersey turnpike if you're not sure what iam talking about.

As a child myself, I think discipline is essential. At school I can tell which kids are well disciplined and which whose parents really don't care.
Though, discipline doesn't do any good if you are not consistent with rules and punishments. A child needs to know what you expect of them and what will happen if they choose not to obey the rules. I am thankful that I was brought up the way I was, stinging buttocks or no.

Discipline = haveing consequenses for misbehaving / breaking rules.
And yes I think it's important...pick up your newspaper today and read about the 10 year old who shot the 4 year old and he died! Or about the guy who gave alcohol to some teens and two died! Or about the latest school shootings! I know this doesn't all have to do with disciplining children...but I bet it's more than some people think!

Discipline = teaching children (and some adults) To accept that their are limits
I think its extremely important, and that their definitely is not enough of it in the world today, thats why their are so many bad kids shooting in schools and doing drugs. WE have to teach our kids self-discipline, how to say no to themselves, so as to bring up the future generation of good citizens

Discipline to me means a system of rules of conduct or method of practice. Discipline is important because it teaches you to respect yourself and others.

There is a difference between discipline and punishment. Reminding people of their responsibilities is one thing, meting out penalties as discipline is different.

discipline is basically teaching self-control. discipline is important because it keeps us civilized. we learn that our needs and wants are not paramount in our lives. sometimes we can't have what we want, or think we need. by teaching self-control and social skills, we teach our children how to function in society productively. we teach them that just because they want that shiny brand new sports car, they can't just walk up to it and take it. we teach them that if they work hard and earn the income to support the lifestyle they want, then they can have those things. to take something from someone else who's worked hard for it simply because you want it, or to hit someone because they've angered you, or to take something from a store without paying for it because you didn't feel like paying for it, these are all fundamentals of discipline. hope this helped ya.

Teaching good behavior through prevention of bad behavior, talking through problems and punishment when nessicary.
I think discipline is important because with out it, our society would crumble. People would murder, rape, steal, abuse, etc.... with no consiquences and only the people wronged would give a care.

Children need rules and guidlines and there should be consequences for breaking those rules. That prevents obnoxious unruly children.
Discipline is not so much punishment as correction.
