no, no! Pedigree is just garbage for dog food. Check out the ingredients in the dog food bag. Pedigree has corn 2 x's in the first 3 spots...no whole meats at all, meat and bone meal...what kind of meat...roadkill, euthanized shelter animals??? The term “meal” means that these materials are not used fresh, but have been rendered. What is rendering exactly? Rendering, as defined by Webster’s Dictionary, is “to process as for industrial use: to render livestock carcasses and to extract oil from fat, blubber, etc., by melting.” Home-made chicken soup, with its thick layer of fat that forms over the top when the soup is cooled, is a sort of mini-rendering process. Rendering separates fat-soluble from water-soluble and solid materials, removes most of the water, and kills bacterial contaminants, but may alter or destroy some of the natural enzymes and proteins found in the raw ingredients. Meat and poultry by-products, while not rendered, vary widely in composition and quality.
What can the feeding of such products do to your companion animal? Some veterinarians claim that feeding slaughterhouse wastes to animals increases their risk of getting cancer and other degenerative diseases. The cooking methods used by pet food manufacturers — such as rendering, extruding (a heat-and-pressure system used to “puff” dry foods into nuggets or kibbles), and baking — do not necessarily destroy the hormones used to fatten livestock or increase milk production, or drugs such as antibiotics or the barbiturates used to euthanize animals. Makes you quvier at the thouth of it all huh? >.<

Eukanuba just came out with breed specific formulas of dog food, including a Boxer one. :) Don't listen to what other have to say about Eukanuba. It just simply may have not worked for their dog, and it is a bit pricey than other brands and that tends to stear people away from it even though it has no fillers, artifical preservatives, flavors or colors added. The old formulas may have but its just like trying a certian food again as your taste buds change so do ingredients in dog food. I posted a link to it below for your information. I coud say the same ugly things about the Nutro Natural Choice brands because my dog has a food allergy to Lamb and the Chicken ones. But I don't. I like the brand, but it didn't work fr my dog. On the new Eukanuba Sensitive Skin Formula she has begun the healing process and is amazingly clearing up very quickly. I have done a lot of research on dog foods and this particular brand appeals to me in many good ways. Now there is Iams which is buddies with Eukanuba and a little cheaper and minus a few vitamins and minerals from what I have read on both websites and personally checked dog food bags in the store just to make sure I saw the same thing on the site as on the bags. I wanted to ensure my dogs got the best of the full amout of the vitamins and minerals needed for them, so I got them on Eukanuba. Also feed some canned food like once a week on weekends is easy to remember. Canned foods generally contain more animal protein and less grain than dry foods. Protein is good for building muscles, and providing energy for the dog. Plain dry food does not clean the teeth and is not an essential for either cats or dogs. Cats and Dogs need at least 50% of their diet in the form of wet food to reduce the workload on the kidneys and keep the urine dilute. Cats or Dogs with a history of bladder or kidney disease should not be fed any dry food of course.

Best Food For Boxers

60 # is an average weight for a Boxer..so unless he is taller then breed standard and unduly thin he should be right on. Don't necassarily go by other Boxer weights since many Boxers are overweight.

As for food...Pedigree, Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Purina, Alpo and other grocery store brands are low quality. They are loaded with cheap fillers...corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp...all things a dog doesn't need and can't process properly. Corn & wheat are high allergens, soy causes excess gas, corn & soy have been implicated in recent studies as one of the causes of unexplained seizures in dogs, beet pulp adds nothing but bulk and unnecassary sugars. Dogs are carnivores..meat eaters, NOT grain eaters. It takes up to 3 times more of a low quality grain based food for a dog to get proper nutrition then it does of a good quality meat based (at least the first 2-3 ingredients are meat) food.
Some good food choices to consider:
Canidae, Innova, Solid Gold, California Natural, Timberwolf, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's soul, Blue Buffalo, Premium Edge, Percise just to name a few.

Also try mixing in a good quality wet food with his dry at least once per day (he should be being fed twice daily..it is better for a dogs digestion if they are fed twice daily even as adults).Wet food does NOT cause tarter build up or any other tooth issue nor does dry food prevent it contrary to popular belief (even among some vets).Dogs don't chew their food the way humans do..the food doesn't stay in the mouth long enough to benefit or to cause issue. Also wet food usually has more meat and less carbohydates then dry so can be more nutritious.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://bitly.im/SesSl

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

60 is in the standard weight range for a Boxer - does he look thin? Have you ruled out the fact that he may have internal parasites and need to be dewormed?

Pedigree is a good food - not great - but good. Find a food that acutally uses meat as the main ingrediant - not "By Product" - by product means feathers and feet and beaks and hooves - not stuff your dog should be eating. You can try Eukanuba, Iams, Diamond, Solid Gold, Royal Canin, Science Diet, Bill Jac or Nutro - those are all excellect foods.

If he's "very thin" as you mention then he needs to be seen by a Vet - Boxers are at risk for liver disease - make sure something more serious isn't causing the problem.

Look at the ingredient label on the food bag and look for the following:
~First ingredient should be a meat of some kind (doesn't really matter which other than what your dog likes), not a by-product, "meal," corn, and so on
~The protein should be no less than 22%, optimally no less than 25%.
~Try to avoid dogs foods that are soft (I.e. Kibbles & Bits), choose hard kibble; the soft food collects on their teeth (espicially if your not brushing them) and can cause tarter build up, plaque, gingivitis, etc...

It doesn't have to be an expensive brand to be a good dog food. Iams is a food that is the middle of the road price and is excellent (I feed it to my two dogs and three cats). By feeding a higher quality food (I.e. Iams, Eukanuba, Diamond, etc...) your pet will be healthier, you'll have less of a poop pile to pick up in the yard (there less by-product for your dog to "poop"), and because the main ingredient is more filling (vs. a by-product, "meal," etc...) you feed your dog less (for I.e. if you by Alpo a 50# dog would need approximately 2 1/2 cups of food, as oppose to using Eukanuba approximately 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cups).

If after you try changing his food he still doesn't gain weight, then I would call your Veterinarian and/or at minimum take in a fecal sample to check for internal parasites/worms. But also keep in mind, boxers have a slender build to begin with. The exception are those boxers that are used for work purposes or are exercised once daily (or more); those dogs simply appear more muscular.

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://tinyurl.im/aHLv4

The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

Dog training are excellent and very helpful to build you a stronger relationship with your dog. Read more https://tinyurl.im/wdF3m

After I started training my dog, he became very attached to me and loves to stay by side as long as he can. But just going to them won't help. You have to practice what they teach you outside of the class and you need to keep up with it at least every now and then after the class ends otherwise they'll just go back to previous habits. This course is a really good place to go for dog obedience classes. It get's your dog around other people and dogs to socialize while getting the training you need. As for electric collars, I would say to not get one. In my experience, they're only a negative effect on your dog. I mean of course you're going to need to correct your dog, but being positive and encouraging your dog works a lot faster and easier.

Every dog is different, so unless you have a german shepherd or a really smart dog, it might take a while to train her. You might get frustrated with her, but go easy. She's still a puppy and has a lot of energy. A backyard or somewhere to run will help her get rid of a lot of energy that might cause her to misbehave from boredom.
