I know it's the name of the boy in the Never Ending Story and a band's name, so please don't tell me that. We are planning on naming our son Atreyu, and I can't find anything on the meaning or origin of the name.

For all of you giving very rude answers, I did not ask for an opinion.

My fiance is mexican, and his heritage is part Aztec. We want a name that will go with his very unique mexican last name. I like unique names, and Atreyu is very beautiful.

It's Indian (as in India) and the name means warrior. It was not invented by the Neverending Story, but that at least is not a negative association. I think it's beautiful and unique!

In the book it meant: "son of all." It has NO meaning outside of that since the book, "The Never Ending Story," is the origin of the name; the author created it. It was not borrowed from anywhere else. So if the author says it means "son of all" then it means son of all.

I don't think it's a real name. Or if it is, it's very obscure.
I checked behindthename.com and babynames.com and neither of them have it in their database.

Maybe the author made it up. Or, like I said before, it could just be a very obscure name like Isidria, which also doesn't appear in either database, but has been found in a number family history records, generally Latino.

It means that your child will be very mad at you when he finds out you named him after a fictional character from a movie full of pseudo-muppets.
