She feels threatened by him, she doesn't know if she should take the gun herself to the police station or if she should just give them a call, he wouldn't give it to them willingly.

If the firearm is illegal for some reason (modified, he has a felony record, ect.) then I wouldn't travel with it. If she is afraid of him then she should not be married to him. Call the police and turn over the firearm.

If she feels threatened by her husband than why is she sticking around? Shouldn't the real question be whether she should stay or go? Because if this man is a threat, then gun or not, he is still a danger.

There will still be knives, hammers, ice picks, fists, chainsaws, etc.

If she is in a loving relationship, then the gun shouldn't be a big deal. Her safety has nothing to do with the gun.

she should first decide if her husband is a responsible person and if the gun , in fact is only intended for home protection , as a hobby , or as an extension of his personality . if its #3 than she should probably do something drastic like take it to the police and say she found it on the street or leave the house until the husband leaves the gun .

This may seem offensive, but it needs to be asked. I'm surprised that no one else did. What reason does she have to be threatened by him? If she is, and justifiably so, why would it make a difference whether he had handy a gun, a kitchen knife, or a blunt object? This is why it doesn't make sense to me. Is she really afraid of him, or of the gun itself? Lots of people don't like guns.

She'll be just as threatened and endangered if she turns the gun in. If she's afraid of him with a gun why wouldn't whe be afraid of him with a bat, a knife, or a table leg for that matter. If she's threatened period she should leave.

If your friend strongly feels that her husband is a shady charecter and might hurt her she should immediately leave him. About the illeagal weapon she can inform the police after she leaves him for good. I could not understand why she feels threatened by her husband. Your information is vague.

Don't touch the weapon. Contact the police to have it removed. Let them know that there is a weapons BEFORE they show up. They will run the numbers to check out the registration on it. If it's illeagal, they will confiscate it. Then let them know that she is threatened by her husband, they could force him to move out. then get a retraining order.

What makes it illegal? I know of no state that says it's against the law to own a gun as long as you don't carry it concealed. I think your statement is a bit wrong.

What makes it illegal? Why not just make a 911 call from a phone booth in town?
