Stay away from the Focus! They are the biggest steaming pile of junk on the road right now. I work on them, and they fall apart at 100,000 miles. Find a Toyota or Honda and you'll be a lot better off. The Chevy Malibu has it's problems also. They are cheaply made to help cover the cost of worker's pensions and health care. So you get less car for your money.
Good Luck

Focus is Ford's low end budget car, pretty reliable. Malibu? I think I would focus on a Toyota or Honda, they have far better reliability than either of yours, better gas mileage, low breakdowns.

Focus's are nice and may be easier to finance -- chevy doesn't have a first time buyers program -- try Nissan -- I believe they do and also the Versa is a really nice afforable basic car.

Neither of those are very good cars. Neither one is very safe, and both are unreliable. Try a Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, or Mazda 3.
