for example: in street craps, i'm willing to bet 10 on the shooter, but the other guy will only bet 5 against the shooter. i think i have to"fade" 5 dollars of my bet. what does that mean?

from how i understand it, u both need to bet the same amount to make it 'fair'... but he can't or wouldn't bet more than five, so u need to 'fade' $5 off ur bet, which is the difference between his bet and urs...
again this is my own logic, i never actually heard it

I have never heard "fade" used as you diescribed it.

I have always understood to fade a bet is to cover it, So if the shooter bet $10, someone might throw in $10 and say "You're faded."

This definition is supported by both wikipedia and dictionary.reference.com.

almost correct.......you bet ten......the other guy fades 5 of it.
